What does "full" feel like?

Recommended Posts

I am 4 days post-op and I am wondering what full will feel like with the band on. Is it different than before? Last night i was starving and drank some broth probably faster than i should have. I felt like i needed to burp real bad but i couldn't. Was that being full or was it just gas?

Probably it was both drinking too fast and gas, combined.

In terms of being "full" - don't go there.

You don't really want to be "full" anymore. What you want is to be "Not Hungry"

I have found that "full" only happens after I have eaten far, far more than I should.

"Not Hungry" happens much sooner. The Trick is to stop eating when you begin to feel "not hungry" instead of pushing on and trying to get "full".

I know from experience that "full" can happen - but it only happens for me when I have eaten enough to fill my pouch AND the lower stomache. Not the plan, if you know what I mean.

Not full happens pretty quickly. These days, I try to plate up just a small, small portion and eat that. If I am "Not Hungry" afterward, I don't eat anymore.

Hope this helps.

**Oh - and letting yourself get hungry or "starving" is a very bad idea. When you are "starving" you eat too fast and/or you eat too much.

If you need to eat more than three times a day - that is ok. Just have planned, healthy Snacks available and roll it all into your calorie count.

Good Luck!

It sure helped me, thanks ReneBean.

I have been having that mentality. I realize now I need to stop eating when I'm not hungry any longer, not when I feel full.

This new tool will work for me if I can learn new LB ways of eating and un-learning my old habits.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
