Recommended Posts

Need some advice here.....I was banded feb24th...due for my first fill thursday apr 5th....leaving for vacation on the 7th.... my question is should I cancel the apt for the fill and reschedule it for 2wks later in case there is probs with me and my 1st fill....... or go on vacation with the new fill 2 days later and just enjoy the beaches of los cabos? Anyone been in a similar situation? Advice from the wiser bandsters?? thanks!

Blue - I wouldn't feel comfortable being very far from my surgeon/fill doctor immediatley following a fill. Not to mention the fact that I wouldn't want to be on liquids(my surgeon requires it, yours may not) during vacation. If it were me, I would re-schedule. Vacations in my family mean eating out alot, so I wouldn't want to deal with being unpredictable as far as pb-ing either. Just my 2 cents worth! If you can't re-schedule, I would make sure that the fill is VERY small... and depending on if you are self-pay on your fills or not, you may not get your money's worth. Have fun in Mejico.

BlueGem,

I did i did!!!

i got my first fill March 19, and flew across the country (6 hours on a plane) March 21st. I had a 1.5 fill in a 10 ccband.

i chewed some dramamine an hour before getting on the plane (the chewable kind not regular kind..lol) and i was fine the whole trip. i was on liquids the day of the fill and the next day then moved tomushies the day after. i was eating solid food the day i arrived home.

never had any nausea.

BUT ....

everyone is different. Just wanted to tell you that i did it, same time period too roughly and i was groovy.

i was in the same boat, my doc recommended that i wait til after vacation to get my first fill. I am now 3 1/2 weeks post-op and am able to eat a lot more food recently..i went up a pound or two, my Dr. said not to panic about this since these first 6 weeks are for healing.

I'm with Jack! My band is FOR LIFE, and I am determined to NOT let it RULE my life, just guide it. I think I'd get the fill and go, but that's just me. I figure that if I'm on vacation and am really tight, I can find some Soup to drink...

I would go for the fill. They typically do not fill you very much. You probably will not feel much. Good luck and enjoy your vacation and margaritas! Julie

I too had a vacation just 9 weeks post-op. I was filled 2 days before leaving for my trip. I got a small fill and was fine. I did 5 days in Disney (usually adding 5-7 pounds with a trip like that) I managed to lose 8 pounds from all the walking. Make sure you are going to be able to do the post-fill liquids/soft foods. I had to start back on regular food a day sooner then the doc suggested but he said to take it easy and all would be fine. ~Mandy

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
