So I have finished my 6 month follow up that my insurance company requires us to do. All test, evaluations, and blood work has been submitted. I'm waiting on the surgeon and the committee aproval. They required us to lose 2% of our body weight, however when I weighed in, I was off by 1 pound from my goal. Unfortunately due to my cycle which tends to weigh me down. Im trying to stay focus and positive I hope this does not hold me back, that's what I am scared of.

Praying this won't hold me back, I should get a phone call from the committe next Thursday for a decision, I really want and need this so..... bad, ughh the anxiety is killing me.

Well this may put your mind at ease. My nutritionist set a really crazy goal for me to meet before I could have my surgery. I only had 1 month to lose 27 pounds! Needless to say, I did EVERYTHING she said and I only lost 20 during that month. I was so upset I cried the day of my appointment cause I felt like I failed. When I got there, she acted like I did super de duper!! She was excited for me and said that took real committment. Needless to say they let me proceed no problem. I shouldn't get your hopes up, but 1 pound does not seem like it would be a show stopper. Praying for a positive result. And don't worry over it. Stress can lead to hunger and only make it harder for you. Stay positive! :)

Thanks so much Stephanie. That really helped out. I actually talked to the rn of the bariatric department. She said I should be fine and not to worry about it at all. I have to wait until Wednesday for their decision I have so many things going on at once, moving, working two jobs, back in school. Smh I pray Wednesday gets here fast.

If you were only one pound from goal I would think they would be thrilled! The way my surgeon explained it to me it's not always a test to see if you're taking it seriously but for some patients the surgeon is concerned about having enough room inside while doing the surgery and needs you to lose some weight before to ensure a successful surgery. I'm sure they will be thrilled with your progress. You did great!

Thanks seela my nutritionist was so excited about my progress and im kind of looked at her like, I failed, why are u so happy. But I guess Ur right I think they set a high goal for us so we can at least lose something. But I believe that's why the liquid fast we have to go on is important before surgery, they want our liver to shrink for surgery to be a more smooth process.

You're absolutely right. You're doing great. I see smaller clothes in your future :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
