Almost 5 months out, still borderline dehydrated

Recommended Posts

G2 was a lifesaver for me. It would hydrate me quickly because it has other things that straight Water doesn't. Doesn't sound like your not getting too many calories so one g2 a day may make a difference but definitely pay attention to the kidneys. You don't want to get a stone or have other issues.

I know you mentioned that you don't have any health insurance. However, your post-op care should have been covered by your surgeon's initial billing and I think you're still consided to be a post-op patient. Do you have a contact person for your Bariatric program? If so, give them a call and tell them what's going on. It won't hurt to at least give them a call.

I was covered by surgeon for 3 months but I'm 5 months out :(

Seela, I'm not dehydrated but my skin is noticeably drier after surgery. Remember, we are not getting all those fluids through foods we used to get so being dry, though uncomfortable, is nothing to be alarmed about as long as you are getting a sufficient amount of fluids. You mentioned you were drinking a Protein Drink every day. Those are usually 11 oz each so that is 11 oz to add to your Fluid intake. I drink Vitamin Water and plain water mixed with SF kool aid drops and they seem to be easier to swallow than just plain water. For some reason plain water and tap water all have a metallic taste now and I can not seem to get tthem down. Spring water with kool aid does the trick. I never thought at 58 years of age I would be drinking kool aid but hey... if it works I'll take it. Wishing you luck.

Haha elfnow, that's so funny - sad but true. A beer type hat is just what we need!

There is such a drink, but it has sugar in it .... The lower-calorie version hasn't got AS MUCH but still some.... And some folks just don't like the flavors. I prefer Powerade Zero myself...

Seela, if you are between insurance you could check what local services are available through either your state or county or a community service like United Way. When I was in college I used a county medical office that was for young women and children, they accepted a much lower fee based on your current income, so a visit was only $15

Chronic dehydration can stress the kidneys. If you have other issues (like certain medications or high/low blood pressure) is can make it worse. Talk to your doctor. I don't want you to be alarmed, but just in case, you should report it. You might be just fine! I am finding it hard to get enough fluids. I am not as good at sipping as I was at guzzling Water pre sleeve. If you are worried, you should go see your PCP. Are you taking any meds?

Like I said, I lost my health ins. So no doctors for another two months. Im off my meds, and if you look at the numbers it appears I shouldn't be dehydrated. I think it's more that I'm not sufficiently hydrated. How much more does one have to drink before their pee doesn't look radioactive?

Is there any way you can hop onto Medicaid or just buy a temporary plan through a health exchange in the meantime?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
