So I'm about to end this night and tomorrow I start my liquid diet for the two weeks prior to the surgery. When I got up to put away the food for the last time I felt a weird sense of emotions. It's really here... The beginning of a new chapter. I have never been able to have self control and now I have to get it together. Food is the only thing I have ever been able to control and now I am giving that up. Please God help me adjust to this new life.

jacquelynn....you say that you have never been able to have self control but then you say that food is the only thing you've been able to control and you are giving that up. Please know that you will have more control over your food after WLS than ever before. You'll find the self control because the surgery will help you to find it. Trust me when I say that as I truly had no self control when it came to food. I ate all the time and being hungry had little to do with it. I was so ashamed of how much food I ate and yet it was never enough. Being able to walk away without being stuffed is such a great feeling and it's better than eating to excess. The food tastes just as good as when you eat less of it and in my case, it tastes even better because I eat with purpose rather than with abandon. Good luck my dear. You will do great.

I go to the doctor tomorrow for my final preop appointment, and I assume I'll have to start the diet on Thursday. I've got mixed emotions too...it might sound stupid, but it's almost like an old friend is dying or something. food has been there for me at all times when sometimes people weren't, and it's scary to think of this change. I know that this will be a roller coaster ride, but hopefully one day I'll look back and see that it was all worth it (and you, too). I totally get the emotional piece of all of this, and I think that will be more of a challenge than dealing with the actual food restriction. Hang in there, and know that you're not alone.

I was going to post something supportive, because I remember that time so well, but honestly, the above post was beautifully written and spot on.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
