Is that tightness I feel?

Recommended Posts

ok, I had a horrible stomach virus this weekend...thankfully for Pheregren I only tossed my Cookies violently 3 times....and on top of that, it's almost that TOM....with that said, it seems to me that now when I lay flat on my back I can feel the tightness of my band...is that crazy? Is it just muscles that are sore from being sick or has my band tightened because of the TOM or have I done something to my band? When will I quit worrying that I've done something to my band??? LOL

Tightness relates to how small the stoma is around your stomach and is measured by how difficult it is to pass food through the stoma/band. It isn't something you feel from outside your body or even feel within your body.

You're most likely feeling some inflammation from throwing up in your abs or your pouch? The bottom part of your stomach violently gyrates to expel anything in your stomach it doesn't want there. The stoma is so small that this can cause the band to disengage from your stomach and slide up your esophagus. Or, it can cause the lower stomach to crawl up through the band. Both are considers slips. Hope it's just ab strains?

You should call your doctor.

I agree I would give your doctor a call and let them know that you were vomiting just to be sure that everything is indeed OK.

When we vomit the usual spasm that makes food go down reverses and makes food go up and when the muscle reverses it can cause swelling in and around the stoma from the pressure of bringing something up against the force of gravity which naturally propels things downward.

That swelling can be temporary or it can force the band out of place if it's extreme. Sometimes rest and liquids is what the Dr. prescribes but only the Dr.can tell you if everything is OK. So for peace of mind I would give them a call. Let them know what your symptoms are and ask for some advice on the next few days.

If they ask you to go to the office, go you will sleep better at night knowing rather then second guessing.

Feel better and let us know how your doing!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
