Got complacent.. and I need to move forward!

I had the lab band surgery back in December 2012. After four months I was finally at the right fill, and began losing weight at a steady rate!

During the following summer, and until now I've lost around 60 pounds. I do need to lose more! The problem is I became "comfortable" at the new weight! I was able to wear clothes that hadn't fit since the previous fad diet failed and the weight came back on.

One good thing, the weight is not returning. Had I failed a fad diet in the past, I'd lose the weight in the summer, and by the next spring be at a new record high. The lap band works well enough that I find I can maintain weight without a lot of work, mental anguish, or going hungry. That in itself is a godsend.

I was just curious if the same has happened to anyone else? Have you lost a lot of weight, and then become too happy and allowed yourself to stall at what should be the midpoint of your weight loss journey?

Now that spring is here I'm recommitting to the gym and tracking what I eat in a daily log.

I remember you. You used to post often but sort of disappeared last fall?

Anyway, I too lost quickly and got within 25 lbs of my goal and I was getting attaboys left and right, old clothes and new clothes fit again, then Holidays 2012 came around and I gained 10 lbs. Been there ever since. Not gaining, not losing and no one to blame but me. I don't eat a lot of bad food but that early drive to lose a lot seems to have gone buh bye.

I live in Denver and my sole source of exercising has been biking. I'm eagerly awaiting the weather to turn to Spring/Summer so I can hit the bike trails(32 degrees and snowing now). I usually put about 60-80 miles a week on my bike. That's about 5-8 hours of hard riding. My weight loss is highly dependent on my exercise participation.

Find what made you hungry(pun intended) to lose those lbs and go for it.

Hi there, I remember you, too, when I first started doing my research -- one of those inspiring types! Or I just love your dog. Sixty pounds is great, and maybe it was good for your body to have some time to get used to that before you committed to the next chunk. Spring is in the air. What a great time to shed and to kick up the exercise a few notches.

A while back some one posted a list of what things weigh and for some reason I latched on to the weight of a cinder block being 33 pounds. I have lost belly weight, and I guess that's just like putting down a cinder block I've been carrying around for absolutely no reason. For years. Now I'd like to put down a second cinder block -- working on that. Let's do this thing!

Yes, ive done the same thing myself. ive been banded two years now, this month. Ive lost about 2/3 of the weight that i needed to lose.. but for the last three months ive not moved at all. In fact ive put on a couple of pounds. I had to have a small amount of saline taken out last nov.

Also, i had a bad run with inflammation in the pouch which saw me end up in emergancy for two days last week. I ended up having more saline taken out. I see the dr again in six weeks. Im not happy that ive stalled, in fact gained a little. I need to get moving again.. I havent stopped to work out a strategy yet. It was only last week that i was so sick with inflammation .. i need to get serious now and do something. I cant afford to be complacent for the next six weeks, i will put on more weight.

See the journey through....you're not where you need to be, but thank goodness you're not where you used to be.....I mean 60 pounds is a nice chunk of weight. I would meet with the doctor again, maybe discuss getting a small fill, and GET BACK TO BASICS....,eat Protein, drink Water, exercise.... FINISH STRONG!!!! I did find your post encouraging to me in that you may not be losing, but you haven't gained.... Very encouraging to read this!

Well, I am somewhat motivated... I've been going to the gym and doing 40 minutes on the thread mill every day. Next I have to start logging all the calories and Protein on a daily basis. The weight isn't coming off as I had hoped, but it isn't showing any signs of going up either. I'll give it another few weeks to see if the scale starts moving in the right direction. At least I feel better after exercising!

This is exactly where I am right now. I have lost 75 lbs and have been going up and down within 5 lbs for months. I am no longer miserable so this horrible winter has helped me lose the motivation to move forward. I still have a lot to lose though so I am also recommitting. I have had the same thoughts, if this was a fad diet I would be at a record high right now. I'm thankful for my band and also scared to think l haven't changed as much as I need to. I'm ready to move past this point and see what I can do. Good luck as you continue your journey!

I was at the gym when it opened at 6 am this morning. I'm planning to make this a weekday habit. Yes, it's one day down but it is another accomplishment for the new me. Every positive decision is a step in the right direction. Hope you all are taking positive steps!

I too have the same issue after giving away 90 pounds and now have slowed. Have only lost about 9 pounds since January 1. Need about 10 more, but that will be slow. Winter rain kept me from walking and you will not get me in a gym at gun point. So, I do the 12 pound bounce. Up 2 down 2, up 2, etc. Today the sun was out and I did about 2.5 miles with the first .25 mile being about an 8 per cent grade. That alone used to take me 2 to 3 stops to catch my breath. Today went up it in less than 10 minutes. Did the complete 2.5 miles in around an hour and that was with a stop at the mini mart for a string cheese and a bottle of Water. Maybe a small fill might be in order or a chat with dietitian and hopefully your surgeon offers support groups that you can attend. Best of luck.

Oh, I am still here :)

I've been hitting the gym everyday religiously, and doing two miles on the treadmill. That burns a bit of calories and I feel a lot more energized after a session.

I'm seeing some slow movement in the weight... but we were on a 10 day vacation during which I enjoyed a few liquid refreshments. The good news is that I probably still lost a very modest amount of weight despite a bit of indulgence.

I'll know better in another few weeks of tracking stats, since my weight can move up and down I have to use a longer term average to really be sure the pounds are really gone.

My doctor has excellent support groups and staff, and they will keep after patients who haven't been into the office for followup visits. They definitely don't forget a patient after surgery, as all too many surgeons seem to do.

Still hitting the gym every day... I've hit 305, which is a new low... I really want to get below 280 before or on August 22!!! We're going on a special vacation to Alaska--land followed by a cruise. I want to really enjoy this vacation, since we may never do it again... I feel pretty good at 305; but I think I'd be in heaven if I can reach 280 or less! Two pounds a week will do it... three pounds a week would get me near my "goal" weight. If I can do two pounds a week I will be fine. Three pounds a week for the next 16 weeks will get me where I want to be long term. I am getting motivated again!!

I'm a year and five months out from surgery. I lost 75% of my goal quickly and then got comfortable. I had a long "pause" and maintained quite well, even over the holidays of 2013. I wanted to look good when seeing my family, so that kept me in line. Come the first of they year and what we here on the gulf coast call a hard winter and I gained 12 lbs.

So, currently I have gone back to what I know to do. Logging my food and Protein, including shakes daily! I have lost 9 of the 12 lbs and really feel motivated to keep going. What happens with me is I just get fed up and then I focus intently, ha! Unfortunately it can be the ONE thing I focus on, but that is another story. My energy is back, my emotions are even, so I'm enjoying things and keeping busy again.

Seriously, those 12 lbs put me in panic mode. I do not want insulin back in my life! Best of luck with starting over!

I'm right there with you. I lost 50 pounds and have Sat at that for 2 years since my surgery in 2012. I'm going to a family reunion in July and it's crunch time. The thing is, if just east right I lose weight but I'm addicted to junk food and in my mind- if I can eat junk food and not gain weight why not do it? Well, I'm no longer comfortable at this weight. I'm getting to the point where I'm as uncomfortable as I was 50 pounds heavier. So... Here we go. Back to the basics. Tonight I'm picking up stuff for smoothies and mooshies and I'm in it for a 3 day jump start.

Keep it up it will come off if you keep moving. Just don't give up! I find after a few weeks doing same ol same ol that my body needs a shocker so I have to change routines around, so I will force myself to do my 2 daily miles on an Elliptical instead of just treadmill as it hits muscles that ate not used on treadmill thus kicking in a higher calorie burn for me plus do various weight machines at the gym.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
