Thanks for your reply-didn't know if anyone else was up at this hour. Did you have to wait along time for your surgery once your info was submitted to your insurance company. I have been waiting for four weeks and I am anxious to have the surgery. I have been trying to keep busy with spring cleaning and trying to lose a little more weight before the big day and started a walking program too. I am learning so much from reading these posts. ;) :nervous :):D

Wow! I had the following tests: Nuclear Stress Test, Two EKG's, Pulmonary Test, Chest X-Ray, Blood Work, Psychological Evaluation, and Upper GI. I thank my lucky stars(and GOD) that all my tests came out normal. My BMI is over 50 and I am ready to roll. Beachgirl - you are really lucky!!!

..you don't have to have a Psych eval if you come to Toronto. I guess they figure if you're crazy enough to pay $16,000, knock yourself out.

hahahahahahaha...thas funny.

i had bloodwork, psych eval, ekg, nutri meeting, sleep apnea test, and thats it. Had to get past med history of med supervised dieting, which fortunately i had an abundance of.

it was well worth the hoopjumping, and i love my insurance. I was denied twice but it was because i didnt have all the information in one place yet. My surgeons office was EXTREMELY helpful in gathering everything, plus i requested a case manager for help too. it worked out well.

Shelli,

I just got insurance approval on friday so now I'm doing all my preop stuff this month. I do have to have a scope and he will take a biopy for H pylori. (I have no idea what that is) I also will have blood work, xray, pulmonary function with arterial blood gases and i have to attend a nutrition class. This is after a phychological evaluation and nutritional eval. from a registered dietitian.

The surgery is being done at a very wiil known bariatic center so i guess the doctor is just careful. I'm just so happy that I got approval with the first request.

Roxanne

I had to do blood work and a sleep study. 1 week before the surgery, I had pre -admission testing done at the site - blood, urine, ekg, chest xray, ultrasound. The day of surgery I had a urine test to make sure I was not pregnant...lol

hi katsuflw,

it really is a breeze those tests. i hate hospitals and any kind of tests but i just make up my mind that i had to do it and it wasn't as bad at all. even the dreaded upper gi was a breeze. i guess it is true that life is what you make it

good luck and take care shelli

I wasn't willing to wait for surgery and I wasn't willing to jump through ins co hoops to get the surgery so I paid in cash and went to Mexico. I'm still glad I did it that way.

May i ask how much did you pay?

I only had pre-op bloodwork and H&P. My physician said that only people 40 and over or people with heart conditions had to have an EKG.

My surgery was 2 months after the initial consult, although it would have been earlier if I did not have to wait over Christmas/NewYears. I did not have to wait for insurance because I do not have any and... for some reason... the Canadian government does not cover LapBand surgery like they do gastric bypass... cover the dangerous one... makes sense to me... :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
