I have my first consultation with the surgery center tomorrow. I have a feeling that my insurance won't cover the surgery and I know I won't be able to get financing, I want this surgery but if insurance won't pay, what are my options? Save up for Mexico?

Call your insurance ask them what you have to do for them to Pay a portion. My insurance denied me the first time then approved it a couple weeks later with more information.

You're surgery center should also be very educated on telling u exactly what u need to do. Listen to them! I had to go my primary Dr once a month for 6 months then be seen by the surgery centers dietician psychologist surgeon and go to classes everything. But they finally approved it

Just try to stay positive, I was devastated when they called me And said my insurance denied it. But they told me just to hold tight they were working on it and sure enough a couple weeks later they approved it. It is a LONG process. It's not a quick and fast process. That I wish someone would have told me. I scheduled my appts with the surgery center in March 2013, but couldn't get in until October, then I had multiple appts every month up until 3 weeks before my surgery They called said surgery was in 3 weeks and then there were a ton of pre op appts that I had to juggle around my 60+hr work week. It was crazy hectic and I worked up until the day before surgery.

Be prepared And find out in advance how your short term disability works because now I'm 10 days post opp and have been going round and round with them

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
