I'm scheduled for surgery first thing Wednesday morning and ever since last Wednesday I've been getting more and more anxious each day. It has freaked me out that my countdown is in days, not weeks anymore. My stomach is "ugh" feeling all day long. I'm emotional, feel like crying several times a day, not like myself. My head spins and I think of everything that could go wrong. It doesn't help that I'm self-pay, I keep thinking of long term complications that could happen that my insurance won't cover. I have had no doubts and felt complete peace about this procedure until this weekend. I've been very overweight since I was a child and well over 300 lbs for at least the last 13 years so I know I need this. I'm hoping its normal that I'm feeling this way but it still is no fun!

It's so normal! A lot of us turn into stark raving lunatics in the days before surgery. You've got this!

So normal! Hang in there. It is so worth it. I was sleeved in last July and down 110 lbs. Loving life. I was like you but day of surgery I was relaxed. Good luck and wish you a speedy recovery.

Yep we all go through the pre-op "freak-out". Just try and find peace in the fact that you will be starting a whole new lifestyle for the better. Just because complications CAN happen doesn't mean they WILL happen. It's no walk in the park but after a couple weeks you will be feeling back to normal. Just think about all the positives instead of the negatives. Good luck!

Thank you everyone. I'm hoping these nerves die down a bit. I feel bad for my husband and kids.

The first 48 hours are tough BUT each day has been much easier and those first days are "fuzzy" already. It's not easy but it's also not as bad as I worried about. The drugs work well. I'm down 10 pounds since surgery. The hard part is balancing hydration and feeling full which happens in an instant! But it's all worth it. Just take one min at a time. Hang in there!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
