anyone know why we can't at least have a sip of water when we eat food. What is the worst that could happen?

Recommended Posts

I have done all my reseach and know that I am not supposed to drink anything (I am on soft pureed foods now) fifteen minutes prior to eating and at least 30 minutes after eating. I have seen that it is reccomended not to drink for at least an ;hour or two after eating. I have been having a lot of trouble getting my fluids in because of this. I HAD to take a sip or two of tea one day because my food felt like it got stuck in my chest while eating.... (esophagus) to get the food down. If we do drink when we eat I know it leaves the stomach faster and leaves us hungry sooner. Some people drink with meals when they want to eat more food. This is not the case with me. I just wish that sometimes i could just have a sip or tow of liquid with my meals..... this is hard for me to get used to.

so today I skipped eating any meals so I could catch up on drinking my liquids... I felt llike i did a poor job yesterday of getting my fluids in and have to make up for it today as I started feeling really bad today.... and my urine was dark. I don't want to get dehydrated and end up back in the hospital.... This has become quite a delima for me..... I can't drink fluids fast now like before. It takes a lot of time it seems to drink drink drink and then be able to eat.... then wait.... then drink....... it's now a chore to do all of this.

Any suggestions?????

This is so the liquid isn't just pushing the food through which defeats the full feeling longer.

I get hungry at about the same rate with or without Water with my food. However, I can't get a lot of food (protein) in if I drink at the same time

Been posted a million times, but it just never gets old and the information is relevant. The video is for RnY, but is relevant for the sleeve. I know when I was carbing up for a race, I would drink with my meals and could easily double my calories for the day. If you are not exercising rigorously, you do not want or need to be doubling your calories. Drinking with meals releases the feeling of restriction so much sooner.

My nut said that for now (soft food stage) we are able to drink any time we want, before, during, and after eating. She said there isn't enough time in the day, unless we were up all night, to not drink for an hour and a half because of eating. Especially since she suggested we eat something every 2-3 hours

With that said, I rarely ever take more than 2-4 small sips with my meal.

My surgeon and NUT encourage sipping through meals. They feel it helps the foods go down better when you're newly sleeved and it helps you meet your Fluid requirements.

Years ago (Dh had RNY in 2005) the same surgeon said no drinking 30 minutes prior and 30 minutes after.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
