June 2014 Sleevers Check In!

Recommended Posts

Sitting here on post-op day 1. Lots going through my mind, but very little going out or in my body. Feeling the immediate "what have I done" feeling a bit. So I found this forum to help get me through these first days. Anyone going through the same thing? Encouragement needed. Patrick

I felt the same way, I wanted the sleeve so badly, then after surgery, I had some big regrets. For the next 2 days, I was in pain, I felt like I was hit by a truck, I couldn't imagine why I did this to myself, intentionally! Day 3 I started feeling much better. Now I'm 10 days out, and I am so happy with my choice. I feel great. I started jogging, and I'm eating right. Down 10 pounds since surgery. It will get better! Right now is the hardest stage. I hope you feel better real soon!

Hi Patrick, I am on day 8, days 1 - 3 were pretty tough for me, no complications thank goodness, but tough due to all the meds, sleeping in my lazyboy in the family room because laying flat in the bed was a "Nope!", difficulty getting fluids, etc. It can get to you, but with each walk and every sip it gets better, each day goes by and you feel more human! I drove my self to my 1 week appt, I went grocery shopping on Tuesday! It feels good to get outside and feel the sun (that is saying a lot here in the Pacific Northwest!).

Two mantras for you:

Walk, walk, walk!

Sip, sip, sip!

Hope you are feeling better soon!

I love the mantras. Thanks for the encouragement.

I had my VSG on the 17 TH and got home from the hospital late yesterday evening. Some minor issue with high white cell blood count made it questionable whether I would be released. But it started coming down so I could go home. No real pain, thanks to pain meds. I am taking meds for nausea but not helping much. Dry heaves are no fun! Walking fine and having no issues with getting Water in....but anything like broth, Popsicle, Jello is not setting well with me. Makes me throw up. So I will stay with just water for now. I am not having buyers remorse, but I sure do wish for this first week to be over. I know it will get better. For right now, I am pretty miserable. I am starved! Surprised with that feeling. Thought I would not have that issue for some time yet. I also have hiccups numerous times per day. Don't last long each time though. Only a minor bother.

Day one of mushies! For Breakfast I had 2 oz. of whipped cottage cheese. Felt nice and full but not uncomfortable. For lunch I had two scrambled eggs cooked with a pat of butter and with less than a teaspoon of ketchup. Again feel full but not uncomfortable. I am down 19 lbs- surgery on June 4th. I look back on how I used to eat and before I used to be so hungry all the time, I wish I had done this sooner!

I wish I had done it sooner too!! I can't believe how much I used to eat! For example, if I couldn't desire between a burger and chicken strips, I would get both! Both! It seems insane...well because it was! I'm so so happy eating the way I am now. There's no shame or regret after meals

ChristmasJanet thank you so much and best of luck to you as well. I'm on day 4 of the pre-op liquid diet and I keep telling myself this has got to get better lol...I just keep thinking after surgery I won't want to eat so I feel like it will be easier. It's hard having a husband and 2 kids being able to eat what they want. I just smell it all and imagine how good it tastes but how it's not good for me and the hunger will pass after awhile lol

Wow. The pain will slowly go away. Just make sure to keep walking. It really helps. And get rest. Hopefully you will be able to get home tomorrow. Glad to hear the surgery went well.

I'm so tired of all the sweet shakes on the pre-op diet. I'm on day 4 of 14...does anyone else have any suggestions. I tried the Unjury chicken Soup and it was ok...

Day 4 is hard one. Wait a day or 2. Just remember this phase is temporary.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
