I was approved by BCBS of AL in only a matter of 2 weeks. I'm having a EGD and EKG done on April 15th and my surgery date isn't unit May 20th. (Due to me already having a vacation planned)

My question is how long is everyone else taking off work? My doctor said some people go back to work after a week. Right now I have 9 days off after surgery. Do you think that will be enough? I don't do a lot of bending, mostly just standing and walking (for 10 hrs). My employer isn't aware that I'm having surgery, and I'd like to keep it that way if possible.

Thanks in advance!

My surgery is March 25 I also have only 9 days off. I hope it is enough. Most people say as long as your not lifting or doing anything too stressful. I am more concerned with dizzines and or feeling sick at work as I am not telling anyone at work the only thing they know is i am having hernia repair, which is true but all they need to know.

Thank you! You'll have to let me know if 9 days was enough. Hopefully you won't have any dizziness or get sick! I worry about that too though and wonder how I'm going to explain it to coworkers. ????

Did you schedule your tests or your Surgeon? Different tests have different time frames for which they remain valid prior to surgery. Check with your Surgeon & the Hospital to make sure yours will be within those time frames so you won't have to repeat them before surgery. :)

My surgeon's office has scheduled everything, so surely I won't have to repeat them.

But I will ask just to make sure! Thanks for the heads up :)

I went back to work after a week off from surgery. It was enough for what I do but I have a pretty sedentary job. I was still a bit tired and would have preferred to work 1/2 days but I didn't want anyone at work to know I had surgery so I stuck with it. If you have a physically demanding job you will need at least 2 weeks off. Good luck everyone.

My surgeon stated to take off 6 weeks. Abdominal surgery is a major surgery and there will be lots of swelling and we'll need time to let the anesthesia and pain meds wear off. I would like to take off only 3 or 4 weeks, but she was highly against it. Mentioned the only thing I should be doing is walking and resting the first few weeks to allow the abdomen to heal properly. Your insides get jarred and moved all over to do this surgery, and it's a once in a life time Change so why not heal properly to avoid complications in the future?! right?! Each surgeon is different though.

Yes, my surgeon also said 4-6 weeks.. 2 weeks after surgery I'll see her. I'll decide then what I'll do.. I can work part time if needed.. I don't lift much @ work.. The only concern my Doc had was driving, as you use your stomach muscles ????

I never thought about that !!! But I'm looking to go back ASAP as I'll go stir crazy at home.

I won't be having surgery until July but I don't really want people at my job getting suspicious so I might only be taking 1-2 weeks off.

That's exactly how I feel. I work in a pharmacy that only has 6 employees so it's going to be tough hiding it. If they were the supportive type I wouldn't mind them knowing but they are very negative so I'll just keep it quiet for now. I'll have 9 days off then work 2, then off for the weekend so hopefully it'll work out fine. Good luck to you on your journey! :)

Thanks! State insurance is pretty good. I'm lucky to have it. Have you scheduled your surgery yet?

No, I don't have a date yet. Still working on it! I have my initial consultation on Mar 25!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
