Hi there,

Oh, most of us were definitely nervous before surgery. I went in there with a very positive attitude & joked a lot with the nurses as a way to cope with my nerves. Ironically, staying positive helped me through this entire process.

My surgery was on a Thursday, and I took off work the entire following week. I worked from home on what I would call Week 2, and I'm glad I did. I was very tired, not much energy. If you can take 2 weeks off, do it!

Best of luck! I'm sure things will work out just fine!

I think it's completely normal. For whatever reason I wasn't nervous on the day of surgery.....I was in the zone, I guess. But I sure had moments of fear and doubt leading up to the surgery.

My surgery was on a Thursday, sent home on Friday. Back to work on Monday, but I work from home. No issues.

I was only calm on the outside! I know everyone is very different, but I didn't experience significant pain after the first 36 hours. At the hospital, whenever I began to feel pain, I just pushed the little button and the nice nurse would come juice me up! Then I be practically comatose for the next 2 hours. Then, I'd get up and elk for 20 minutes or so, which wasn't painful at all, then come back to my room. Strangely, my worst pain was my back, from lying in that hospital bed. My back has been a problem for 4 years, and it's so much better now!

I went to the gym 5 days after surgery, and walked on the treadmill for 30 min. 7 days after surgery, I went back to work. I worked half days during my first week back. I think that was a good choice, since I'm on my feet most of the day.

Best wishes! By summer you will feel like a new person!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
