So this may sound silly but I walked into Old Navy and walked out with a pair of boyfriend jeans and a new shirt. I have to say I teared up in the middle of the mall. The hubs just smiled and hugged me. It was greatness. I haven't ever got to buy something for me once there. It was awesome.

That's awesome! I'm 2 days post op and grabbing onto every positive thread on this site! This is so hard but I hope it's worth it!

Very much worth it. When you can walk into say JC Penneys and not have to go to plus size section, it is all worth it.

Hey that's great! You go girl! I can't wait till I can do that. it's been so long since I've had a nice pair of jeans. I was sleeved on March 6, 2014. I'm just a little over a week post-op. Congrats!

I haven't shopped in anything other than plus size in???????? I can't really remember! I was a 14/16 in high school. I'm 45. I got down to 190 when I was 24 and could wear a 12/14. But I can't even imagine walking into any store and just choosing! It's got to feel good. Sp I'll sit and sip and try to maintain Faith. How far out are you?

I was sleeved May 8th 2013, and I am glad to say I will NEVER shop for myself at Lane Bryant again! Don't get me wrong, I loved being able to go in and shop and not feel like everyone was staring at me, or having a super tiny sales associate look down her nose at me, but I'm also glad to not have to pay $30 for a tank top ever again. Oh, and for some inspiration, when they have their annual sale, Victoria Secrets panties are not too crazy priced, and they are soo super cute. I went in and asked for a med, and the sales girl told me I looked more like a small, guess what? She was right. :) The effort you put out there is so totally worth it, work your sleeves for everything they have, and you will love the results!

I have to say I did walk in Lane Bryant today and turned around and walked right back out. That alone was awesome. Unfortunately my upper half is still on the border line as I have the boobs from hell and shoulders of a right tackle but that too will get better...Had no clue there was such a thing as a 1X.

boyfriend jeans and a new shirt

hey tex,

your success doesn't sound silly at all :)

shopping/new sizes is one of the greatest NSV's you/me/we all have :)

nothing like going into a store (ie JC Penny's) and buying "normal" size clothes

not having to buy plus sizes (where i used to live  )

you're soooooooo close to onderland :)

i'm getting goose bumps for you ;)

keep up the good job :)

kathy

congrats

Thank you grammy...I take it slowly as you can see from my weight loss..but it's a baby step toward the big prize. Long term...I am there for my beautiful grand babies. And I am healthy. I was told today by a fav waiter we have at Denny's that he would have never thought I was 50...I offered to adopt him...LOL

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
