May 2007 Banders

Recommended Posts

Sorry to hear that others are having some of the same problems with

pain, fatigue, low energy that I am. I too thought I would be farther

along by now. I was supposed to go back to work on Tuesday, but

right now I'm not sure if I will be able to do it. I tire so quickly and

just don't seem able to concentrate. The pain is lessening, but the

discomfort, bloating, gas and shoulder pain (my god the shoulder

pain!!!), is more than I expected.

I'm a pretty tough broad, and while I know this was definately the

right decision for me, getting through this stage is more difficult

than I had imagined.

Thanks to all of you for continually sharing your stories. It's great

being able to vent with folks who understand.

Hugs to all.

Margaret

Hey eveyone, It's been a while since I was on the site. The week got crazy and then the holiday weekend come fast. My son is a 2nd grader and my daughter turns 4 tomorrow. How did that happen?:drum:.

My shoulder pain was BAAADDDD!!! Oh my, then, Friday I went in for another procedure, Novasure (if you haven't heard about this one, you should). I was sedated again and woke up with NO PAIN... anywhere. The shoulder pain was gone and I haven't had any meds since I left my OB/GYNs office. It was wierd. I came home, slept from 3p to 9p, got up had some Soup and went back to bed. The next morning, I was fine. Not sure what they did while I was sedated, but Thanks....

Today was a hard one. We had friends visiting in town from Pasedena and went to a mutual friends house for a BarBQ - swim party with the kids. The food looked AMAZING!! It was month watering. I showed up with my cup of Tortilla Soup from Tin Star. None of these folks knew about my surgery, just told them it was because of the Novasure, I could only eat liquids through the weekend. I dont see these folks exact about once a year, so they just need to know what they see the next time they see me. I put my head hunger to the test and I PASSED!!!. I ate nothing but my soup. And it was GREAT. My DH padded me on the back for my courage and will power. I didn't know I had it in me. Thats 2 BarBQs since I got my friend and I can do this.

Well, I need to stop typing and start sewing. I am making 12 Groovy Girl backpacks for my daughters 4th birthday party on Tuesday. I have 8 left to make. UUGHH.. I always wait till the bitter end. That is what I will work on next, but I start working on that tomorrow.. :tea:

I was wondering, is there anyway to figure out total pounds lost by the May bandsters? That would be an incredible number to see grow.

Good night!!:notagree

6 days postop for me. No pain unless I move wrong, and I'm down a few pounds and had to cut a new hole in the belt. I moved to soft veggies today with black eyed peas and mashed potatoes. All well there, no problems.

I was shopping with my brother at the mall and forgot I had the band. Dropped by the soft pretzel place and was munching on it when I remembered eek.gif Painful pressure, but it eventually worked itself out.

I don't really have much in the way of restriction, so I'm moving along pretty well in the post-op calendar. Fortunately I never really feel hungry (even in the 10 day liquid diet) so that's no issue. In fact, that's really the root of my weight problem -- I never feel hungry, nor do I ever feel full, so I would just eat at the "normal times" until I was physically distended (ugh!). The pressure thing is great, it gives me a guideline.

I need to schedule a fill ASAP after doc checks me in a week or so.

Has anyone noticed a change in the way food tastes? Maybe it's just a side effect of the liquid diet?

Well I wasnt on the calander but I got banded on May 4th...So far it has been alot easier than I thought. I have quite a few questions...The only place Im haveing pain is on the side of my port. I coughed this morning and it felt like I was being stabbed. Im sure that goes away but to future bandstrs thats a good FYI...Also I havent poohd since the day before surgery. When do I break doun and take somthing???And if I need to does anyone have a suggestion on a liquid on are somthing small. Its hard to hide the taste of anything in 2 oz. And thats me for the next 5 weeks...I have been able to walk since day one. When I got out of the hospital I went shopping with my mom and to the movies yesterday...I hear that you heal better if you move more...Hope it works...Im hitting the gym in one week and I am ready to get rid of these LBS. :clap2:

Cara --

I too am concerned about the anesthesia... I've had problems with it in the past. I'm just going to have to have a serious talk about it with the anesthetist on Wed.

I'm also very concerned about the nausea. I had an Aleve on an empty stomach last week, and even THAT made me throw up! I ALWAYS get sick after any kind of anesthesia or pain meds. :-(

Speaking of, my surgery is Thurs 31st, can I be added to the calendar?

Thanks!

I just want to say that we all should be proud of ourselves for getting this far. Life is hard and add this factor in.....well I just think it makes us all stronger......stronger to deal with just about anything. That is just the way I see it. I am 6 days post op and I feel a little tired, a little sore, and I have that lump in my throat and chest....feels like a burp that wont come up or down.....very weird feeling. I just want to make the best of all of this. You guys have been super helpfull. I did have another succesfull day! Thank God!

I am with you band sister! I thought I would be much farther along than I am. I am supposed to go back to work on Tuesday.....not sure how I will do that??? I am tired, sore and hungry!! I am usually a fast healer and upbeat but this is more than I expected. I am going to change my name to Wendy Winer......

Feel Better,

Wendy

I am so sorry that I missed your post on your not doing well since your surgery. Probably has alot to do with your gall bladder and band surgery being a week apart. That is alot of anesthesia and incisions to deal with. I wouldn't think you would be allowed to make it back to work yet. You will need at least another week to feel more ready to face the working world. Not sure what you do, but please be careful and take it easy. You did have two major surgeries and your body needs double time to heal.

Take care my friend and band sis.

Judy

Hi All,

I'm back. All is well. I'm a little sore and a little weak, but other than that, no major complaints. My surgery was Thursday, that went fine. I had a bad reaction to the morphine the following day. I kinda freaked my family out. My doctor came by my room three times to check on me and just stood there rubbing me with a worried look on his face. Luckily, I remember nothing about it! My mom is still hugging me everytime she looks at me. Anyway... I think today will be a good day and I'm hoping to be on the upswing. I gotta say, I am a little ready for something more substantial than broth. It's going to be a long ten days on clear fluids!

Hi all! I am not having pains other than my port site. Today is 5 days post -op for me. I am starting to get a little hungry but it doesnt take much protien drink, or Soup to get rid of it. I did cheat and have a few bites of yogurt the other day because I was just so freaking hungry for something to put in my mouth with texture.

Nothing exciting to report here. I tried to walk around a flea market for a little bit yesterday and was absolutely ready to fall over from being so tired. Came home and took a 3 hour nap. I just wish I had more energy. I am tired of being tired.

Hi everyone, I am now morning of day 4 and am feeling great, I could accually go back to work and feel fine, I am a hairdresser and think that I could do what I needed to do and feel great. The pains are gone from gas. But excuse me for being so blunt but one of my only concerns is passing more gas at this point, after being on a liquid diet for the past almost 5 days is anyone else having liquid poopie:) ha ha these are the things that are much easier to share on a message board than face to face with somone. anyways alls I can say is walk walk walk it makes me exausted and if I walk to the point of exaustion and then push myself after that, when I am done it makes me feel like a million bucks. I have been off any pain meds since day 2. I am beginning to feel hungry and my stomach is a growling. thank goodness my doctor didnt do any preop diet, this seems to be hard enough. I just wasnt able to eat anything after 10pm the night befor surgery.

I went to mexico and had the greatest experience! my doctor and anathesioligist came together in my room atleast 8 times in the 2 days I was there he really make me feel so comfy about everything. Also he only needed to make 4 insisions! Is this the same # of insisions as the rest of you?????????? also one of the greatest things I did while not feeling good, is take long hotttttt showers, wow that felt amayzing!!!! you wont feel like getting up in the beginning but that shower is worth it once you are in there. hope you are all doing great! o ya and I am down 7 pds, horayy

Hi all you a-May-zing bandsters!!

I am 7 days post-op and feeling very "normal" today. I also start my full liquids and I am on them for 2 weeks. I have been up and about since the day after my surgery. I would feel a little discomfort but nothing serious. I actually slept on my side last night, it was great! According to my scales I am down 16 lbs. I think I might go in the pool today or go for a walk. I am anxious to get "more" active.

I just wanted to say that I LOVE reading everyone's posts! There is so much encouragment and honesty. It really helps!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
