May 2007 Banders

Recommended Posts

Melissa, I had a bad case of plantar fascitis a few years back that was totally cured with anti-inflamatory, stretching and a pair of New Balance shoes. It has never returned, either!

Hey All, Wow thanks, for all the information you guys are great. I went for my fluoroscopy today. Wow what a great tool. I could see the barium going through to my band and stopping, after he put saline in. so he slowly pulls out the saline till it looks like the barium is spitting out past the band and then he stops pulling it out. Wow I'm impressed. hope I'm tight enough now. I have 1.66 cc in now I guess time will tell. Thanks for letting me sound off abouth all this.

Sheila

Sandra, Y R U asking about flipped ports, do you have one?? Or just worried about it? I cant believe how difficult your fills are, I feel so badly for you! It just sounds so traumatic!

Weazer- You are so encouraging, I love it! I was down to 209 this morning so Onderland is a very real possibility by Turkey Day.

I wore a size 16 non stretchy pants yesterday and looked pretty good! Sometimes it is so surreal. I wish the rest of my 16's would fit right soon because I am tired of being in between sizes!

Sandra-Congratts on getting the license! When we got ours they made sure to ask us if we were related? Of all things who would really say yes to that if it were true?? What is your wedding date again? You arent going to have surgery before then are you?

My daughter is 5, had tubes in her ears a year and a half ago and all of a sudden in Kindergarten has failed her hearing tests and is really struggling with following instructions at school. When you talk to her you have to do it loudly like talking to an older person or she really cant hear you. I feel like a terrible mother because I she really changed when she started school and I just thought she was being defiant. Now we get to go back to the specialist in a few weeks to see what must be done. Having children is hard, I feel bad, I want her to be better, but I dont want her to have another ear surgery. I wish I could trade places with her. I feel like she has already missed out on so much at school in the first 3 months. Sorry for rambling!

Ragdoll, I am jumping for joy at your 209! That is so exciting and wonderful!

But, I feel so bad that you feel guilty about your little girls hearing. It is normal to feel that way. I remember when my girl was around 5 too. I was sending her to school practically blind and didn't realize it. One day I must have noticed her squinting or something so I asked her to cover one of her eyes and read the didgital clock for me. She couldn't do it with either eye and it was only around 5 ft away! So I promptly got her glasses. That is all we can do. That and love them extra hard! I pray that she will be o.k. and not have to have the surgery, but if she does that it fixes the hearing problem. Please keep us informed. I know that most of us in this group just love kids so we are with you!

Blessings, Weazer

Macysgranny, I think size 8 for a 57 yr old women will be fantastic....put all the young 20 somethings to shame! You are doing really good. Keep up the good work and the enthusiasm! That's half the battle I think..the enthusiasm.

Sheila - It is cool to see the fill go in under flouroscopy. I only had my first fill using that machine. Now I have it done at the doc office. At 2.75 cc's I am feeling alittle tight. I am having difficulty with most foods it seems. Maybe it is just the time of day that I am having problems. lunch dosn't seem to be a problem, but Breakfast and dinner are wash outs as far as food goes. I was having trouble drinking my Protein Shake this morning. It gets stuck in there for along time so I have to take the smallest sips and wait around 5 mins before I can take the next sip. Really weird. But the coffee goes down perfect. Must be because it is hot and the shake is cold. Weird. I am just going to go with it for awhile and see if it loosens up a bit.

Well, back to work. Have a wonderful day all you amazing bandsters!

Blessings,

Weazer

rag!!!

my middle son suffered a stroke when he was 15. he's still in 'recovery' at 18 and is doing great. We may have plateau'd there, but so far no one is saying it. I know what you mean about having those feelings of guilt for not understanding her disability when it first presented. please please please dont beat yourself up! i think most of us who have kids with special needs go through this. My own mother was about as nurturing as an irritated rattlesnake in a box... on a good day. comparitively, we are fabulous parents .

The only thing you can do now is address her needs and pick up just like you are doing. I totaly understand about wanting, desperately, to switch places so they dont have to go through it...but they will, and you can only make it something they just go through, like getting braces, and life continues around it. Around the changes, around the tears in the closet. I dont cry in front of him. Prom was the hardest for me to watch. He has since graduated high school and is in college now. Im grateful hes around and i try to just remember that when i start thinking of the 'they will nevers', because we dont know what they will 'never' do. they might suprise us. They will get through this, and life might be different but its going to be okay. I wish i could telepathicly send more support.

OK...a couple pages ago I was griping about plateaus, so I have to also report the positive...the scale is moveing again. I knew it would, just scares me a little everytime I plateau. 3 more #'s to onderland! That was my goal for Thanksgiving, and I know it will happen soon! Yes, I aree on the "surreal" feelings, I had totally given up on seeing 250 again.

Legster...

I totally agree with the plantar cure. I could barely walk, doing much better now with 2 injections, LOTS of streching & exercizes and the New Balance shoes have been the best. Still have little bit now & then, but nothing like before. Having the weight down is huge too.

Rag...

We've done the ear tube and hearing diffaculties too, hang in there, most all grow out of it. Do what you can to avoid any permanent damage and to help her speach develope normally and I know she will be fine. I know it's so hard when we see our kids struggle, they usually handle it better than we do. My son (17) has had diabetes for 7 years and was diagnosed with epilepsy 2 weeks ago. I want to blame myself for not recognizing it sooner and doing something about it (he's had seizures that we mis-diagnosed as diabetic related) but guilt is not productive. It's like I told him the other day, we've hit obsticles before and we dealt with it, and we will deal with this just the same. I'l keep your daughter & lizrbit's son in my prayers, fi that's OK with you.

Sue

I haven't post in here for a long time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just started to see the scales move again. but I have been very depressed about my hernia which is the size of a watermelon. So even though I have dropped 40pounds I can't really tell because my hernia sticks out soo much I look 6 months pregnant. Dr. won't do anything until I lose more weight. I keep asking and he keeps saying more. Which I don't blame him because I only want to have it done once. But I also look at it when I do have my hernia taken care of my stomach will be a lot flatter. It is just going to be a long road and I hope nobody ask me how far along I am!!

I couldnt physically eat half a donut if I put my mind to it. Last weekend my kids were having donuts and so I thought I would take the tiniest baby bite of a donut hole and chew it up and enjoy that one tiny bite... I slimed for 20 minutes because of that. Even when I had NO restriction donuts and my band did not get along. I guess its good for me but sometimes it makes me sad! HA!!

Hello All,

I have had a couple of NSV's that I need to share:

I no longer snore...my family would always give me a hard time about it. I would be afraid to go away on girls weekend because I thought that I would keep people up but its now gone!!

My boss gave us all down jackets the other day with the company logo on it..... he gave me a mens medium (only mens sizes) and it fit perfectly....no awkwardness on his part or mine because of my size!

I also fit into a size 14 jeans (stretch) but they are a 14!!! My 16's still fit but I am on my way to 14!!!

One scale victory....I weigh less than my husband!!!!

Thanks for listening....my family sometimes doesn't get the little things that excite me because they have never had weight issue.

Please post some NSV.....I get excited when I yours too! (wow, that sounds like its all about me but its not meant too)

Should we start a NSV thread for us amayzing bansdsters???

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
