Julie, Next time you're at the grocery store see if they have some ground turkey breast. I like to season mine with worcestershire sauce and steak seasoning. Then make it all up into patties any size you want and freeze them. I eat them all the time, usually with a slice of Alpine Lace swiss cheese on top. Maybe that would satisfy his need/wish to cook on the grill for you. :-)

That scale was interesting. Most of them put me at about 150. I will take that with a smile! I would really like to be at 135 and have lost 100lbs. I just don't know how realistic that is since I have not seen that in over 7 years!

As far as the burger, my doctor actually suggested ground beef for Protein. I have eaten beef patties, no bun, and with ketchup without any problems. However, I don't think I have much restriction!

Tomorrow that will change, I just know this 3rd fill will help!!

At calorieking.com, they show ground beef, 85% lean (1 oz.) has 73 calories, 4.3 grams fat, and 7.9 grams protein. Ground turkey, (1 oz.) has 67 calories, 3.7 grams fat and 7.8 grams protein. Usually ground turkey (at least regular ground turkey) has dark meat in it which has almost as much fat as regular ground beef. :hungry:

That's why I use the ground turkey breast, like i suggested.

Ummm...I'm not sure I follow. They're so close, I wouldn't think it would matter.

Maybe I'm totally missing what your point was, but 4 oz. of the Honeysuckle ground turkey BREAST has 120 calories and 1 gram of fat and their ground turkey has 240 calories and 17 grams of fat. To me that's not so close.

Sorry...apparently I overlooked your reference to the 'breast'. The numbers I was referring to were the ones from calorieking.com, which are pretty close. I wasn't trying to challenge what you said.

Mine said 167, the doc said 171. Pretty close!

MelissaO-

How did your eating have to change after your fills? I noticed you said that you could eat just about anything before your fills. That is the same way I was. I am interested in how things will change tomorrow.

I could eat half a burger before, bun and all! the only thing I ever had to spit up in two months was my second bite of a piece of toast. YUCKY!

The mini-burger with a slice of reduced-fat cheese, and some light mayo (I am one of those un-Americans who don't like ketchup!) was FANTASTIC! Of course I had a few thin slices of pickle on the side! No problems going down or staying down either! The ground beef was 93% lean, so not too bad for me! Thanks for the input!

I am off to go biking now...and then maybe a pedicure!

I LOVE SATURDAYS! Everyone, ENJOY your weekends!:whoo:

Glad it worked for you, Julie!

One of my favorite parts of the warmer months is the ability to cook out and eat at the picnic table. :-) I got a Cuisinart indoor grill, that I just love so that I can grill year-round, too! It's large, so i can cook for the two of use including veggies, or I can grill a whole pound of asparagus at once.

I thought I'd really mourn the bread, but I had the berger patty with cheese, Tomato and grilled onion...it was BETTER than having a bun!!!

It's the muchies that I struggle with...My name is Sue and I'm a recovering chip-a-holic.

Congrats on your loss, Melissa! Hope the new fill will be perfect.

As far as how much we should weigh, this page is interesting:

Better Ideal Weight Body Calculations

that is an interesting site- the "people's weight rec is 189 for me (I'm 5'9") - I'm thinking I want to be less than 150 though- I was 170 in college and was in a size 12/14 - I'd like to be thinner than that. We'll see. Below 200 will thrill me. Anything else is zero calorie icing on the zero calorie cake

head hunger is killing me- I want to snack on salty stuff. Had some saltines (low fat) to tide that over but then ended up eating 24!!!!!! Gotta get the head stuff under better control. AND get a fill. my last fill attempt was a nightmare ( the girl couldn't access my port and no one else was in the office) and I am feeling not very restricted right now..

Sue- glad you enjoyed the burger :o

I'm back from my 3rd fill and a nice chat with the dr! I thought I had gained 4 lbs, but I had actually lost 4 more lbs. I guess I forgot what I weighed, LOL! The nurse told me that the doctor wrote in my chart after my 2nd fill that he just knew I was too tight. He wrote that he thought I would be back by the end of that week. I thought that was interesting, because I felt like my 2nd fill was not as good as my first! Then today, he told me he was only adding 1 cc on the 3rd fills of the new AP band. Well, I guess I was different, he put 2.2 cc in mine. His nurse again, feels certain I won't make it.

I guess we will see, but so far today, I have been fine.

I talked to him about being so hungry and dealing with what I consider to be "head hunger" He swears that once I hit that sweet spot, that it will get better.

So, we will see!

They will be closed so, after this week, it will be 3 more before I can get another fill. That bothered me because the nurse said sometimes it takes a 4th fill on an AP band to get it right! I am going to call Monday and make an appt for the 4th fill, so I can be prepared.

Thanks for letting me vent!!

Also, please post what your post-fill diet is?

2nd fill went GREAT! So far so good.. they added an additional 1.5cc (2.5 cc total) and now I can actually feel the liquid (on liquid for 2 days) hitting the band..then trickling through... hopefully It'll stay that way!!

Hey all, been lurking since school let out so I thought I'd give a brief update. My weight loss has been slow but steady. At my appt last week they were ready to give me a fill and I said "no". Yes, I'm a bit afraid of the fill but mostly this is a financial decision and with the loan for surgery and working for a school district.... I don't get paid until next October. I HAVE to lose without the fill and watch portions. Right now my 1/2 cup fills me up and sometimes I don't finish everything. I went on vaction the last week of June and even lost lbs which I have never been able to do. Here are some of the things I'm doing that seem to help: I carry a childs set of cutlery in my bag and I almost eat everything with a knife and fork which really slows down the eating process. I drink watered down Isopure Protein(20grms) everyday and always carry a plastic bottle everywhere. After I eat I pop a sugar-free mint to remind myself not to drink. And when I want that chip I reach for my stand-by fried Pork rinds which have 0 carbs -- I know the word fried must be scary but after 3 my cravings quit and I'm back on the program. Guarenteed to solve that desire for salt. I also tried matzo crackers the other day when I wanted a cracker -- not bad. My closet got cleaned out the other day and I can button up shirts that I couldn't before and treated myself to a smaller thumb ring for 4th of July -- I'm feeling pretty happy :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
