May 2007 Banders

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery on May 21, 2007 and Dr. Opie from Olathe, KS did my surgery. I have lost 32lbs. How is everyone else doing that had the lapband in May?

Guess what? I am not morbidly obese anymore. Just severely! Oh well, I am happy, it was a small goal. I get my first fill Friday!

Hey Everyone,

When I was on my pre-op diet, the liquid part, the hard part, I tried everything to keep myself busy so I would not think about food. Well I had a little project, I cleaned out my closet and all of my dressers. I piled the clothes on the bed. I went through them and put them in stacks according to their size. Like alot of you I bet, I had sizes ranging from XXL all the way down to size 7 (I think I was in that over 10 years ago, phen phen, only stayed for about a week). Well I took all of the clothes, and put them in stages - Stage one was what I was in when I started this journey, I hung that in my closet. Stage two was the next size and so on. I hung stage two and three in my closet and put other stages in my dresser. I am so excited...... I am am in stage 3, soon to move to the dresser. Have 2 bags of clothes for good will. I just love my band.

What a great idea! You should be really proud of yourself. I bet you feel so much better too, both physically and mentally.

Congratulations!

Thank you Sandra, you are doing great yourself. Putting your colthes in stages may seem silly, but it is a real motivator. What is funny is, well, I have them grouped on hangers, with a ribbon tied around them. So when I think I can wear them it is like opening a gift. Silly I know.

Melissa, WOW, great job.

Last summer I had only a few things to wear, even though my closet was full, I was stuborn and wouldn't put away the too-small clothes. This summer i can wear the whole closet, except for a few things that are too BIG...it's like shopping in my own closet!!!

hello everyone,

I was actually banded on 07/02/07 but I wanted to speak to some of you that have been banded for a little while.

I have 4 more weeks before my first fill and I am still on liquids. I have to admit that I am starving!!!!! Did any of you go through this? How much were you eating prior to getting your first fill?

Just curious

First I want to say thank you to everyone who posts in this thread. You are an inspiration and a help when I need it. I may not post here too frequently, but a day rarely passes that I don't at least check out this thread, if not others in the forum. Again, thank you!

Today it was 2 weeks since my fill on 6/28. It also just happened to be the day I had a follow-up appointment with my exercise therapist. I had wondered how much I was losing after the fill, so I would know whether I needed to schedule another one yet. I don't feel a lot of restriction, but haven't had much trouble sticking to the small portions and light Snacks, if any. Well, when I got on the scale at the Heart Institute I had lost SEVEN pounds! I was elated to say the least.

When she took me in and measured my resting heart rate she said it was down a lot (I can't recall exactly how much). Then we went for the 6 minute walk - at a pace I feel comfortable with. When we got done, she took my heart rate again and said it was down 20 beats a minute (plus I had gone farther in the time alloted!). :biggrin1: She attributed this to the exercise and cardio I've been doing 5 days a week. Then she measured my BMI and it was down 5 points (?) and said I had lost literally no muscle - all fat!

Through the entire process she kept using words like "ideal" and "perfect". She said she couldn't have even hoped for a better result in my case and congratulated me 3 times!

I swear, it was all I could do to not just break down and cry right in her office. I'm so proud and happy. Including weight lost on the pre-op diet, I've now lost 37 pounds.

I hope this doesn't appear as bragging to anyone. I just had to let you know my good news. :clap2:

Thanks for listening.

I am constantly amazed when I meet people who have gone through WL Surgery and are not involved in some type of support group, be it a group meeting or on-line chats such as this. I would be so lost, thinking I'm the only one who is mourning food, or throwing my self into starvation mode by not eating enough and losing nothing. I'm on a plateau right now, and while I am frustrated I'm not in a panic as I probably would be if I had noone to talk too. I would be thinking I just threw away how many thousands of dollars!!!

I have learned more though this talk forum, my group meetings and talking with individuals then I ever learned in my doctor's required classes. The real struggle, at least for me, is with my head, and nutrition classes, though full of alot of good information, don't address that issue.

Thanks to all of you for letting me know I'm not nuts!!!

I totally agree with you!!! Only a couple of my friends and family even know that I have been banded so I don't usually discuss much of the band issues with anyone but on this site. It is a life saver. I am 8mths now and the biggest thing that I am starting to notice is the need to eat is really starting to go away. I have always been obsessed with food and what I am going to eat next or what I am craving....sweets.....salt.....and it just controlled me completely. Packing on the pounds was frustrating and I felt I just couldn't loose the weight and if I did to keep it off. I know feel a sense of relief that you cannot describe unless you also know the journey that the band puts you on. You still have to use your will power as if you were on Weight Watchers counting points but now you not only just rely on will power but have to deal with possible PAIN if you eat too much or too fast. It is sooooo much hassle to eat the things I used to that I just don't even want to bother anymore because of PB's and pressure of the pain. Amazing how pain can teach your brain the difference of hunger because your bored or true you body needs fuel hunger. Reading my body has been a complete Sherlock Holms Novel. I am constantly trying to figure out what I need instead of what I want or what I crave. To make my body a weight loss machine instead of gaining from all the wrong foods.

Thanks you guys for being such a great support and to the ones that are recently banded and still going threw food withdraws.......I swear it does get better. Your frustration turns into just knowledge of reading your body and what works for you. It takes time and we all want instant weight loss. It took time to pack it on and it will take time to loose it................& KEEP IT OFF!!!!!! I LOVE MY BAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:clap2:

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
