Hey may 17th bandmates! I'm eating badly . . . I'm talking strawberry shortcake and cashews! I do real good at Breakfast and lunch and then totally lose it at dinner time. I hosted a wedding shower at my house last night and had all the nibbles including cashews and chocolate covered raisins, m&m's, and hot tamalies. I can't keep my fingers out of it!!! I don't have a problem if it's not in the house but if it's here then I can't leave it alone. The rest of my family is celebrating that there is sugar in the house again but it is torture for me.

I need a fill but I have a week to go before the first one. Anything goes down with no problem and I am so weak with the willpower thing. How do you get through this part of it. This is hell! I don't want to gain back any of what I lost and I don't want to fail. I need help from you guys!!

Hi may bandsters, so I have an appointment to get my first fill on monday morning. I am so excited, I am going to ask for an aggressive fill, I need to see some results again. I am frusterated at not seeing the scale move since the first week, which was 13 pds. I have gained and loss 2 of those pds ever since. I have even hit the gym nearly every day. I started with a lower bmi and hear it comes off slower but I need to see somthing. Hopfully the fill will help.

Hey everyone---

Here is another update. Finally called my lap doc and scheduled my first fill appointment. I will be filled on June 28th. That will be my 6th week from band date. They told me to just drink liquids 6 hours prior to being filled. Don't know why, but I better do it. ;) Anyway, the weight loss I have experienced is still at a loss of 22.5 lbs. I have not lost anymore, but what I have noticed is that I will go 2-3 days a week and lose and then the next 4 days will not lose. I guess you could say that I am losing about 2 lbs. a week which I was told is very normal and a good loss. So, we will again see. Take care and congrats on all ya'lls progressions.

Hi Wenjea -

The beautiful thing is it was just one night. How are you doing today? I have not been perfect either, but it has been with Soup, won ton yesterday, and i had a smidge of breakfast with fathers day, 1 tbsp eggws/cheese and 1 tbsp of homemade has browns... Oh yeah and the 2 oz of ezells chicken and mash potato Friday night (BOY WAS I FULL)...

The sugar is the enemy for us (and others even w/out the band). You are NOT weak, you are human! Don't beat yourself up.. Remember the first 6 weeks are for healing, not weight loss. So hard to remember but it is true. Take it moment by moment and don't give up cause of one little slip. Your weight loss post op is great, remember that. You have worked real hard at that and i bet in the long run you will continue to do so...

I have been doink ok. NOT drinking nearly enough Water, my TOM is right around the corner so I am having cravings. Actually made brunch for my family today and it was a workout in itself this morning. I transition to mushies this week and have been practicing so I know what to expect food wise while at work and what to bring with me.

I can also seem to get anything down but whatever it is I fill up really quick. Is won ton Soup bad???? I get my first fill on the 29th so I am in the same boat as you in a way..

How is everyone else been?

Hi Everyone,

I, too, am feeling bad. I can swallow & tolerate just about anything...with no ill effects. I have been trying to stick to Proteins first, but can't seem to get control of my very strong instinct to put anything in my mouth. I do feel full after eating much less than before, thank goodness! Today I even ate nuts and ice cream with no problem though! I am feeling GUILT for eating, ANGER at myself, FEAR of what to expect and honestly just DOWN on myself! But, my feelings don't stop me from reaching for the food. Obviously I have a much deeper-rooted issue than I thought. In my heart & my mind I know I should be sticking to the mushies...but I haven't been and I am kinda losing my mind over this. Help...:help:

Hang in there Julie- the head hunger is tough! I was in an airport yesterday and all the people eating fast food (fries - YUM), pizza, chips was killing me. I kept reminding myself of why I had the band put in to help my self control.

Officially 4 weeks tomorrow and that's the day my surgeon usually lets people advance their diet to "regular foods". Anyone scared about this step?

With the mushies diet- its been easier for me- I'm a picky eater to stay with mushies I eat very limited things and have lost weight. I'm worried about going to regular food cause that's what I got fat on. Going to try the Protein first and hope that I do ok till my fill

I am in trouble - I was pretty good with my diet all weekend and blew it with two small slices of pizza. I feel full - I don't feel nauseus - I KNOW I shouldn't have done it. At the same time I also want to see what I will and won't be able to handle... i know I shouldn't be doing this. My Dr. has the most strict rules than any I have seen to date (except for those that went to my dr.).

I fully intend to follow his instructions for the next 5 weeks (as I don't really get to move to hard foods for 10 weeks post of which is why I feel bad about the pizza. Does anyone think think I have seriously hurt my band? Has anyone done something close? There is so much that I know but I felt like if I had to have one more Protein Shake I was gonna scream as that is all I have really had since May 10th!

I dunno - feeling confused, embarrased, scared....

HELP..

10 weeks??? WOW. That is a long time. My doctor told me when your scars heal on the outside then you are healed on the inside. Call your doctors office and ask. I just cant imagine 10 whole weeks.

I don't think you've hurt your band. I think your doctor is ultra conservative! My week 5 was last week and I've been eating 'real' food just fine. I think you'll be ok, but I would call the doc's office and double check (I wouldn't necessarily fess up though):biggrin1:. 10 weeks does seem an awful long time.

I found this section a bit late...my banding was on 5/21/07.

Officially today I can move from mush food to real food, but I'm a bit apprehensive about that...as long as I was on mush food, it was easy to control what I was eating - I've lost 50 lbs counting the 23 I had to lose before surgery. I'm a bit concerned that when I taste real food again, it will be hard not to fall into the old habits. I guess the good news is that it seems like I'm getting at least some restriction even before fill, since I haven't been starving with only eating 4 or 5 oz. of mush 3 times a day.

My first fill is on July 5th.

Ljuht115...

I'm with Dr Oh...almost the same pre/post. I know they have a realy long restrictive period. I believe it is true that the majority of the healing is done in just a few weeks. If you talk to others that are release to a regular diet earlier most can eat anything with little or no restriction until thier fill. It seems alot of them struggle with keeping their wieght from going up durring this period. I think that is one of the reasons why our Doc's keep us on liquids until our fill, to keep us from going back to old habits along with giving the band extra time to settle. I don't think you would have done anything to your band, my understanding is it takes quite a bit to dislodge, but knowing this doesn't help the will power, and why take a chance.

I haven't been staying on clears as I am supposed to be right now either. My fill is on Monday and I am eating 1 or 2 servings a day of thick Soup or mushies each day. I have taken nibbles of other things too, making sure to chew to mushy, and am sure pretty that I could eat anything I want. I just keep reminding myself that I can do this, that I deserve to do better for myself. My frustrated side wants to see it as deprivation, but I'm working on the head thing to make myself more important than the food. We are all worth the effort! it won't be long before this "bandster hell" period is behind us and we will be able to eat normal health foods in correct amounts.

We all need to put yesterday behind and live today to the best of our ability!!!

I don't usually post this long, but I can really relate to your struggle...hang in there!!!

Wennjea - this is a hard time for us...not yet filled. My only suggestion is not to weigh yourself. I find that I'm doing ok, so long as I don't weigh too often. We're going to have bad days (that time of the month, social events, etc.) but so long as we're reducing our intake in the long run, we'll lose. If people are weighing daily, that is their choice, but they will naturally see the ups and downs of Water retention after salty days, or just the 1 or two pound fluctuations. I've been weighing once a week, and I see steady progress. Not great progress, not fast, but steady. I look back at the week as a whole, and as long as I can feel pretty decent about most of my intake and exercise, it's better than my pre-band days.

Thanks bandmates, it's so nice to know I am not alone in all of this. I know things will be different as soon as I get my first fill. Every morning I start off so determined and on target with my eating. It's just so easy to grab what I am not supposed to have if it's in the house. I wish I had the will power to throw it all out. I'm leaving town for a week tomorrow so at least it won't be a temptation. Hopefully my kids will eat it all before I get back home. I need to do better with the walking but having the kids home from school just interrupts my schedule so much that it seems I never quite get to it before the end of the day. Life is getting in the way of my weight loss! I guess the trick is to figure out how to make this the most important thing in my life right now and let the other stuff work itself out. I think part of why I gained all this weight is because everything else took priority over myself. It's tough to learn to put yourself first.

Well my fellow A-May-Zing bandsters. Tomorrow will be 4 weeds since I was banded. I feel great, and I have lost 17 pounds. I know that it is time for a Fill, and I have that scheduled on this Wednesday. I see that a lot of you are still waiting after 4 or 5 weeks for a fill. I on the other hand can eat everything....as long as I chew and eat real slow everything goes down. At first I would eat 5 small bites and would be totally full and would be satisfied till my next meal. Now its taking long for me to fill up, so my Doc said it was time for my first fill. I am excited to see more weight come off, but I am scared of the needle. Do take one prick or two???? That is the question till Friday at least!! LOL!! I am very happy with the band an hope to continue this journey with that state of mind. NO REGRETS AT ALL! Wish me luck on Wednesday!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
