jsrico 1 Posted June 1, 2007 Ok fellow bandsters! I was banded 5/22 last Tuesday....so its been 10 days. I had been feeling ok.....but now I have all this bloating in my stomach. I have lost 13 pounds so far, but after being at work a couple of hours my stomach got huge....I had to unbutton/unzip and pull my shirt way down over it. I look like I am 7 months preggers. I fell better if I am standing up and walking around, but the moment that I sit down I feel all this pressure in my back and belly. Maybe its still gas??? I was thinking maybe all my food is stuck and just sitting up top of my new stomach. Can that be possible??? I feel full! I am still on mushies!
GREATFUL 24 Posted June 1, 2007 yeah, I told my doctor that I was "starting to get REALLY hungry" and he just said "good, that's great!". What the hell does that mean? :cry LOL! Mine said it meant that your swelling was going down and you were healing properly. Doesnt make it any easier, but he did make some suggestions on the diet. He said I could eat nuts, such as walnuts (not alot just a few) between meals if I was real hungry. He said to chew, chew until they were mush. It has helped today. He said they also had good oil in them that would help prevent Hair loss.< /p>
keiko 1 Posted June 1, 2007 I started wearing my bra (not wire) about 3 days out. I haven't had any problems with it rubbing, it's just I was so bloated at first that I was uncomfortable wearing it after several hours. Now, 16 days post-op there's no problem. Question, does anyone else's port continue to give them problems? I'm find during the day, but for the last 4 nights, I haven't been able to sleep well. It seems like my port area is more sensitive than before and I've had to get up at night because I wake up and can't find a comfortable spot. I ended up on the recliner last night, which is the first time in almost 2 weeks that I've had to resort to it. I looked in the mirror and the area around the port seems a little red. Any comments or suggestions?
virginiann 0 Posted June 2, 2007 My port has hurt the last two nights. The funny thing is to touch it is very hard. The skin and area where the port is. I'm going to get some vit E and see if that softens the skin any. I'll let you know. But it sure hurts!
twinmommy 0 Posted June 2, 2007 I had surgery on the 17th and my port felt fine the last week, untill I started lifting weights at the gym.................a little pain today. My doc said on wednesday that I have no restrictions on me physically. I will hold off on the ab machine at the gym for a few more weeks. Not a good idea. The scale did move today, I was down to 246.5. Yea!
keiko 1 Posted June 2, 2007 Thanks for the info! I was wondering if I had irritated the area with some of the stretching and moving around I've been doing. Also, when I use the recliner I really tend to stretch and pull those muscles a bit to raise the foot part. I'll try to take it a little easier when I move things around for awhile. mommalee 0 Posted June 2, 2007 Hi everyone! I finally found a few minutes to read some of the latest posts. Its been a while since I posted so here is an update on my own experience -so far. I was banded on May3rd. Port was sore for 2 weeks, then tender for another week. I am back to normal except that I have noticed that my tummy is still a bit swollen, especially after being on my feet for a while. I didnt start back to aerobic exercise until my energy level was good and I was able to eat soft foods. I wanted my body to use the calories and energy to heal before exercising and I am glad I waited. I have been eating well for the last couple of weeks, about 1100 to 1200 calories a day. I get hungry and feel like I could eat a lot but once I eat something like a small piece of chicken with a little salad or small baked potato I feel totally satisfied. I have 3 small meals a day and I can eat just about anything as long as I take it slow and chew well. I make sure that each meal has protien such as chicken, tuna, cottage cheese or eggs. I drink 16 oz of Water during the first hour after I get up in the morning because if I dont I wont get enough water by the end of the day. Well, thats about it. I will see dr. on the 16th for my first fill----OH, and I am losing weight steadily--about 1.5 to 2 lb lb a week now. I have lost 10 since surgery.
PineNut 0 Posted June 2, 2007 I was banded on the 17th and my port area is pretty sore and has been the last few days too. Strange. I had called and spoke with a nurse yesterday since I felt like I had a bulge under the port incision. I was told it could be my port but if it was irritated or oozing that I should come in. I felt like the swelled and hard area was bigger today so I figured I would go have it checked out since the weekend was coming and we are still without regular insurance since hubby changed jobs recently. Rats. Anyway, so we packed up and drove the 60 miles to the office and in 2 minutes, the nurse told me the hard part I was feeling was my port. I felt pretty silly, but I am suprised it is so near the surface??? She said with weightloss it would probably shift a bit but that it was good that it was prominent so the fills would be easy access. If they say so, but I think it is wierd feeling. I thought it would be much deeper in my body. I am struggling with mushy enough. And I still seem to be ordering for my old tummy! I ordered chix tacos and a quesadilla and pintos at taco bell and ended up eating the filling of one taco and the Beans. I need to get my eyes adjusted so I don't go broke! I find it weird to toss the Buns and tortillas....those old carbs. I don't find I miss it and today is the first day I have maybe even thought about wanting a soda. I will just stick to Water. I had lemonade and crystal lite rasberry ice and then I was craving water. HINT: I have been carting around my old 32 oz insulated Weight Watchers cup (I know most of us have one laying around;)) and I filed off the WW with an emery stick nail buffer thing. It has been great for me to measure and know that I have to drink 2 of them a day. I have met my gaol for 3 days straight! I am on a constant search for insulated cups to buy lately and cant find them!

The scale did move today, I was down to 246.5. Yea! Funny how different everyone's post-op instructions are. I was told that I couldn't break a sweat for 3 weeks after surgery. I am on liquids for 3 weeks clear for one and all liquids including Soups for 2. I can walk but nothing strenuous. He told me no abdominal work like crunches for 3 MONTHS! That is a huge diffrence from your instructions. I think that I will return to the gym next week and just take it light. I mean, other people are doing it and we have the same band... ontheway 1 Posted June 2, 2007 It is interesting to read the difference in post-op! I was moved to no movement restrictions yesterday. In fact, my surgeon said to move and stretch every day as least 10 minutes twice daily to make sure the scar tissue doesn't get too bad. I actually started back on the elliptical last Monday and while my stamina is a little less than it was pre-surgery, it is coming back quickly.
NimbleBean 2 Posted June 2, 2007 Today I put on a new pair of crop pants that I bought the week before surgery, thinking they would fit in a month or two. Well I put them and they are already fairly loose! Yippee! ontheway 1 Posted June 2, 2007 Ljuht115- Do not use hydrogen peroxide on your incisions. It takes away tissue that should not go. If you need to use a little neosporin, that is okay, BUT if it is still pretty red, you may want to check with your surgeon. Is there heat to the touch too? Err to the side of caution at the port site, an infection there can be very bad.
tumonbug 0 Posted June 3, 2007 hi all banders banded on 23rd, when to post op visit with doctor yesterday, 20 pounds down:clap2:, yipee, also for those of you out there having trouble around your port, mine isnt infected, but bra rubbed against it and dr. said to put polyporin with gauze bandage when wearing bra, and when not, let it have air and keep clean and dry, hope this helps:), my biggest problem is still the Unjury, makes everything i have taste terrible, i just cant get it, my taste buds picks it up over all other tastes, and it seems to thicken my Soups and drinks, is that normal:confused:, but other than that i am doing great and dont regret anything, im not back to exercising really good yet, but i started this long journey because i needed to lose weight due to the fact i have a bad back with four deteriorating discs which prevented me from exercising, so hopefully after some of the weight loss, i can get going with a good exercise program, so as always, all banders , hang in there, things only get better:),and your all in my thoughts and prayers...........debbie

deb24 0 Posted June 3, 2007 Hi all. I was banded on Tuesday and have had a bit of a rough road but hope I am turning a corner now. I ended up spending a night in the ICU because every time I fell asleep my respiration would drop dangerously low. I was fine the next day and was moved back to the regular surgical unit but had to stay an extra day. I think the fact that I could not walk that first day in ICU but my recovery is going slowly and I am up every 4 hours during the night drenched in sweat and needing my pain meds. I hope I start feeling better soon. Any advice?:help:
