May 2007 Banders

Good evening everyone...

Well, I am 9 days post op and went back to work today (surgery was the 23rd. It is a sit down job but is inside sales so it is high stress and you have to move and think very very quickly. Let's just say I was definitely a tortoise today.

I worked for 6 hours and HAD to come home. I was exhausted and my port is still really really sore!!!!! I fell right to sleep for 3 hours. I think I am still healing and still a little swollen from the surgery on the 23rd, but it is so hard to tell. Just a really long hard day and I might have pushed it a little too much. I can't wait to be where some of you are where your port is not sore. I still can't sleep on my port side and it is still hard to bend over (I know so don't bend over right?)... he he..

Well - I went to see my dr a few days ago and said all was good so I am not too worried about any problems, I just think I got the luck of the draw with a long time heal for my port. I kinda sound like I am whining and probably am. I am certain my co-workers are tired of covering for me, but I will not make it a full day tomorrow, I can tell. I will try and do what I can but I think I overdid it with my port today.

It is still pretty red and scabbing over so it is still sensitive to the touch/clothes (my port)... Anyone have any ideas or thoughts? ALSO anyone using hydrogen peroxide and neosporin on their scars?

Also, I am having trouble getting all my liquids down. NOT because of my port, but because I am just not hungry or thirsty. I can get my Protein Shakes down easily and my broth. I need to drink more water...

How is everyone else at this moving along? No weight loss for me from yesterday. Hope I am not hitting a plateau while still on liquids with an intake of 800 calories or less, my goodness..

Anyhow - hope you are all doing well the amazing bandsters!!!!

Regards -

For you May banders... how long did it take for you to be able to wear a bra again? I am 10 days post op. I tried to wear a sport bra back to work on Tuesday and it was a no go....probably because I sit all day and my front was "scrunched up"....didn't HURT the incisions, but felt a lot of pressure and uncomfortable (stripped it off in Walgreens parking lot on the way to work....I'm sure it was a good show). I've been wearing my "fat pants" leggings and scrub shirts all week. Going to see "Spamalot" downtown Friday night and would like to be able to wear "real clothes". I wonder if a "real bra" would be better than a sport bra since the sport bra comes down farther (actually closer to the port area)....

I STARTED WEARING A REGULAR BRA DAY 8. NO SPORT BRA'S FOR ME TOO HARD TO GET ON AND OFF! My incision is about 2-3" below my left breast. Bra's just suck anyway you look at it.

Hi all. I am not a May bander, but a March bander. The bra thing, well to begin with I always hated them, but it took me at least 3 weeks. I prefer camisoles, unless I go out.

Hi everyone. I am just over 3 weeks out and had my first followup today. I was surprised by my doctor approaching me with a syringe saying "ok, well, ready for your 1st fill". AGHHHH! NO, Not really. I was not ready! I expected it to be a few more weeks, just by reading the posts that most people are 4-6 weeks out before their 1st fill. I was scared to death! It wasn't nearly as bad as I had psyched myself out to think that it would be. The experience was a bit wierd, and I hope that this helps with my hunger, it's been bad lately. I got 2.8cc's placed into my 4cc band. Now I'm on liquids again for 2 days, then 2 days of mushies, then I can try regular foods. Anyone else have a fill yet? How did it go?

Plateaus stink!!! My weight is stuck and I feel like it will never move again. Things are going down so easy that I keep nibbling on things I shouldn't. Tonight while I was waiting for my daughter to get back from her fast pitch game on the bus, I ate a ritz cracker. The first one went down just fine, so did the 2nd one, but the third one stuck pretty good for a couple of hours! I hate that I'm even trying it. I just can't imagine two more weeks of shakes and Clear Liquids before my first fill. If I had this much willpower then I wuoldn't of needed a band!

Now for the thing I did right today . . . . I walked for two miles. I'm desperately trying to get the scale to move again. Maybe if all of you could pray for me that would help. Thanks for being here.

Kacee I had a friend go see Spamalot last weekend and they said it was awsome!! Have a Great time and my surgery was on the 18th and Ive been taking ton's of tylenol and wearing gacho pants ever since. In the afternoon the Bra thing really becomes a bother but in goes more tylenol. It really helps that issue. Now I'm taking motrin which last longer. Good Luck and Have Fun!!

I had to go back to work after 7 days... wore a bra...took it off on the way home from work. It's starting to get better now (day 11). I would suggest a regular one... the other one sounds too low.

I started wearing my bra at about day 6 and am fine but it is by 'body by victoria' and really stays put against my body, doesn't ride up or down. I tried a sport bra but that was worse. My issue is wearing my pants up on my waist. The more weight I lose the higher up they come and I just can't stand anything above my belly button.

Still no movement on the scale . . . . . . .frustrating!!!

I think I started wearing regular bras after about 7 days... I just couldn't stand the uni-boob look that the sports bra gives!!! HAHA!!!

AND.....

The scale FINALLY moved!!! 2 pounds... not much but every little bit counts!!! :clap2:

I went for my first followup yesterday. I am over 4 weeks out, banded on May 2nd. And my doc said he would not give me a fill until I was past 6 weeks. I was a little disappointed, I have no restriction and getting hungry. He said we would rethink it in two weeks. I guess this is what they call "Banster Hell".

Good Luck!

I wore a bra the next day. Underwire to hold up the girls, of course.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
