May 2007 Banders

Recommended Posts

just stopped by to check everyones progress. Seems like everyone is doing great! I'm starting to fight the head hunger now, everything everyone else is eating looks so good. My stomach isn't hungry it's all in my head, the memory of how good food tastes. it's a battle on these long weekends.

Anybody dealing with some pretty smelly farts? Whew!

I am right there with you wenjea--looking at the food others are eating is making me want to eat, although I am so not hungry. Gotta psych ourselves into not falling for that mental trap! Stay strong sisters!

And yes, the farts are rotten smelling...embarrassing! I sure hope they go away before I return to work Tuesday!

Question--when do BM's start coming regularly?

You're on the calendar now. Hope you are doing well!

OMG I'm so with you! It took everything I had not to rip the hot dog my poor son was eating right from his little hands. I'm not even hungry at all, it's so sad. I'm actually struggling to get down my Protein Shakes and my Water but I wanted that hot dog like it was the last one on earth! Might explain a little about how I got to weigh 244 lbs, eh? I can't fit in any water but darn it I could polish that hot dog. Or the eggs my husband had today. Or the spaghetti they had last night. I need to heal a little more so I can leave while they are eating!

Although, I have to say, my husband is a doll. He saw me salivating over that dumb hot dog today and he said he was going to have a Protein Shake for dinner in "solidarity" with me. So we both had our Protein shakes and he set up the patio furniture outside, gave me a magazine and then told me to go out and enjoy the warm evening. He fed the kids and then came out to sit with me. He said he was doing full liquids with me tomorrow too because he wants to know what I'm going through. Isn't that the sweetest thing? I hit the jackpot with him, I really did.

Congrats for all of u. I am struggling with terrible hunger this week 5 days post op. No Protein Shakes for me until Tuesday and my stomach is growling and pinching causing real hunger pain. I am really starving off of sf pops and broth with Water. SO i am struggling and on top of that got my TOM today cramps and all. Just what i needed.

I sent hubby off for some Tomato Soup that i will liquify down and add 1

SMALL dollup of ff sour cream. is this bad??????? I have stuck to the liquid diet religiously for the past week. My surgery was supposed to be the 22nd and ended up on the 23 (see previous posts).

Why am i hanging low with no energy and everyone else seems ready to go and get back to life by Tuesday. I wonder now if I am evem going to be able to make it to work by Thursday. I am ok when I lay down. I still have gas and my bm's are all still liquiid.

Anyone else feeling like me or have any extra ideas for dh or I on food or words of wisdom????

Help starving and down in Seattle..

LJUHT115 - When I got light headed from starving, my doc said it was probably from low sugar levels so he suggested I have some regular apple juice undiluted. It helped bet the thing that helped the most was when I started back on my Protein Drinks. It's not about hunger now, just wanting it. I was a kind of 'if it there I eat it' person. That is how I got to this size. i think it will take awhile to retrain the brain. I got so desperate that tonight while my family was eating pizza, I grabbed a garlic bread and did the chew and spit thing. My kids said there was an eating disorder like that. It did taste really good! I figured I was pretty safe as long as I spit it back out. However, I am sure that I absorbed some unneccessary calories.

Yes, I know what you're saying. As far as bms, someone said in another thread...liquid in, liquid out! (which makes sense to me!)

It's also taking me a lot longer to recooperate than I thought it would. So, I just have to take it one day at a time and be encouraged that there is steady, but slooooow progress. Again, I didn't even plan on returning to work soon. My doc said he prefers his patients be off of work for 2 weeks, which is what I chose to do, and I'm just adding 2 extra days on because I'm not crazy about having to go back and I've got STD that will cover most of my time off.

The hunger and boring diet are driving me nuts. I should stay on full liquids another 3 days, but I've decided to go to the next phase (pureed) tomorrow. It says in my paperwork from the doctor that everyone advances at different stages, to take it easy, and don't skip any steps in the process. Well, I'm moving up my food by 3 days because I think I'm ready for it and that 2 weeks of full liquids is too long. Also, I think I'd have more energy if I advance to the next step and get something with a little more substance into me. I don't care if the Protein I get in the shakes is good, I don't think it can stay with me as well as something more solid.

deb24,

Sorry about that. You're right, I did put you on the 29th but forgot

to remove you from the 24th. Just seem to be a little off my game

since the surgery.

Hope you do well on the 29th.

I am 4 days post-op. I am passing gas and just beginning to have BM's. I am supposed to return to work on Thurs. I have a physically demanding job as an RN (lots of patient lifting, etc), and don't know how I will muster enough energy to work an 8 hour shift. I still have quite a bit of discomfort -- especially when I have this "lump" that won't go down. I have tried warm tea, and it helps a bit. I find sleeping with my head elevated helps that "lumpy" feeling. I am not too hungry and feel I can only take 2-3 ounces at a time. Anyone else experiencing these feelings?

NimbleBean, im so sorry, must of been the drugs when i found this site and started posting, my date was the 23rd, when i was banded, also, along with R. Kidder, i am having a really bad time with the lump from my throat down through my chest, i am really trying hard with this, and its my biggest problem and the only time i feel good is when i am laying down and it seems to go away, but i cant lay all the time, im still just doing Clear Liquids, im afraid to try anything else, and i hear others that were banded on or after my date doing so good, (and i am so proud of all of us), but i just feel awful every day due to this clump in my chest and throat, anyone have any answers or has experienced this and if so, what to do for it, i want you all to know that i am keeping you all in my prayers everyday, and that even though some of us are slower than others, just think, in the end we are all going to be accomplishing the same thing, and then we can be here for the support of all are new banders in the future............

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
