I've been having the same problem ragdoll, I can't drink all the Protein Shakes. I was banded Tuesday night and since coming home Wednesday have only gotten two full shakes down. I am sipping Water, crystal lite, sf popsicles (the hawaiian pineapple are a taste of heaven!).

Wenjea had suggested a heating pad for my stomach, that helped TREMENDOUSLY from yesterday to today--the swelling is almost non-existent! Also, I've made sure to walk & then walk some more. It's helped. Yesterday I was miserable, today I haven't even taken a pain pill or tylenol!

Keep smiling!

Hey guys, I have been having a problem with so many shakes also. This morning however I made my shake with 2 scoops of whey protein....40 grams!

It was a little thick and took me all morning to get it down but it is a start! I am trying to get all my Water in but I know I will not make it!

Good Luck......

I am just going to listen to my body and drink what i can tolerate. i will know when it is time to kick it up a notch. Heck what i have drank today is already a huge improvement over yesterday. we will get where we need to be girlies! i am just so thankful that i am not hungry right now. that would scare me!! its strange to be afraid of food when for so long i was one of its biggest fans! my head has been telling me i must be hungry because i havent eaten since tuesday but my body is quite clear it is not hungry! (other than the strange growls my tummy makes)

Thanks for the "hunger" support! I emailed my nurse and told her that I was not going to make it on 650 calories. I went back and read all of my post-op stuff and they told me to eat between 600-800. I just don't think my body can function on that. Where are you all buying the Protein stuff you are eating/drinking? I did lose 1 lb this week, so I wil accept that!

Thanks again!

Happy Friday!

I buy the GNC flavored whey Protein powder....cookies and cream is my favorite. I also buy other flavors including plain to add to just about anything. Everyone is different, you may find something else you like. There is a thread on just shakes that should be helpful.

Well it looks like almost everyone is making progress. I found the first week soooo hard but I see a light at the end of the tunnel now.

Saw the doc yesterday and I had lost 12.5 lbs! :clap2: He told me I'm doing fine, not to push myself and he'll see me in 5 weeks for my first fill! I did find out I have a large band, so it will be interesting to note my progress. I really will be gratefull for any weight loss, because I know it will finally be permanent. I'm not in a race with anyone, and my goal is not to lose x amount of weight is a certain time period, the goal for me is to get a healthier life to share with my family.

Have a great weekend and rejoice in the fact that we don't have to be a slave to food anymore.

:help: hi, i just got banded the 25th, i'm soooooo happy:clap2: and looking forward to a new me, however, how about the pain and how long does it last, i'm afraid i'm going to rip apart while trying to get into and out of bed, (i'm glued back together, not stitched,) of course, i'm afraid of the whole thing, my family and friends had bets on me whether or not i would go through with it, only because they know that i fear surgeries, which is normal, but any thoughts on time healing and getting back to everyday life i would appreciate, and i do know that everyone is different, but just wanting some feedback, i have high hopes, also, on banding, i didnt think we had to have all of the Protein that gastric has to had, did anyone else think that way, hope to hear from you all

Have a great weekend and rejoice in the fact that we don't have to be a slave to food anymore.

I like the sentiment and the way you think! At my all day behavioral health class the psychologist said we may need to take food out in the back yard and bury it. This might be a good weekend to do just that! (figuratively)

As always, best wishes to those who were recently banded and who will soon be banded.

tumonbug,

you said: (i'm glued back together, not stitched,)

I could be way off base, but I'm 90% certain that there are stitches below the skin line. Kind of like a blind stitch (seamstresses may know what that is) with only a tiny knot possibly showing above the skin line. At least, that's the way mine are. If you feel at each end of your incisions (particularly the larger ones) you may notice what I'm talking about. Maybe a nurse could back me up on this, or not. :-)

Hope that makes you relax more about feeling you might "come undone".

Legster... can I borrow your shovel?

Of course you can! Better yet, hop on a plane and we can have a little ceremony together! :)

Oops! Forgot to also mention about the stitches: My Dr. said they just dissolve on their own after a time.

legster,

i think you are right, i'm just new at all this and everything kinda scares me, even though i know that there isn't anything to be scared of, but i am glad to hear you are glued also, i am the type of person that i have to take my mom or someone else to listen because i forget so easy and i still haven't gotter the nerve to look at my incisions yet, my aunt just looked and she thinks they look good, one is kinda swelled, but i figure that is just from surgery, but thanks for your feedback, i appreciate it....

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
