May 2007 Banders

Recommended Posts

The same thing happen to me Friday. I got a bill from the doctor's office for the total amount of my surgery. The thing is I was self-pay and brought them a cashiers check for the whole amount. Some how it got lost and was suddenly found once I called about the bill. So maybe it's a mistake. Dont let that upset you:faint:

huh...the same thing happened to me! they said I owed $7 thousand and some odd, but while talking to me, suddenly 'found' it!

Hi to all May Banders. I was banded on May 8. I have had a struggle with major depression since the surgery. Each day it seems to be lessening. I am on fluids....and in another week and half I can progress to semi solids. I feel full all the time...and am drinking all the time it seems. I am too starting to feel more energy , which I am so thankful for. Hope you are all doing well and keeping with the program. At this stage I feel I might live through this ordeal. Shar

Shar, I'm sorry you've been feeling down. I had my surgery on May 8th also and haven't bounced back the way I'd hoped to. Glad to hear you're feeling better. I've noticed that every day I truly do feel better.

I am almost at 72 hours post-op! I feel pretty good today. I had my second shower this morning. That felt great! My port incision is a little sore. It is by far of course my largest incision. It sits about 2 inches above and 2 inches to the left of my belly button. One of the others I have to put neosporen w/ antibiotic on, because it is oozing a little. For some reason it rubs on my ribcage when I breathe. Getting out of bed was pretty easy today. The gas is almost all gone, I think! I weighed this morning and I am down 15.10 lbs from May 2nd. Yea! Still a little swollen, so hopefully that number will go down a little more. I find it really hard to drink everything that I am suppose to drink.................

I'm two days post op. Certainly better than yesterday, but still have this pressure/tightness in my chest right between the boobs - what is that? Is that the band itself? My Dr. puts the apparatus (where the saline is injected) closer to the chest area towards the bottom of the ribs rather than the hip, is that what's causing the pressure too? (Dr. Spivak, Houston, TX) Really uncomfortable. Am I drinking too much such that it's buidling up and causing the pressure? Any insight anyone has on how to relieve this discomfort would be greatly appreciated.

I just wanted to say to those who are a bit worried about not getting their Water in the first few days after the procedure that I had the same problem. I just drank what I was comfortable with for the first few days. broth and Jello has water, too, I figured. Each day I was able to drink more until on the 6th day (yesterday) I got it all in with no problem. I think it's just so ingrained from the pre-op stage that we tend to worry when I doesn't happen so easily.

Just thought I'd mention it. :-)

Nurselaureli,

My bellybutton was really bruised too, that's where they placed my port. Tuesday I will be 2 weeks out, and it's almost gone now. I also had a really nasty bruise on my hand from my IV, that looked worse than my belly. But, that too is nearly gone.

marcinharrr,

I did the same thing. I was set to have surgery on 3/1, and chickened out 2 days before. I thought, and re-thought about it and finally decided to go for it a few weeks ago. I asked my dr to work fast before I chickened out again. I knew this was what I needed and I had to just do it. I was scheduled on a Thursday to be banded the following Tuesday. That Monday I began to freak out again. I talked with friends and co-workers about the pros and cons, as well as kept reading these threads, and worked over my fears. I needed this, and I was going to do it. I did, and now I am so glad that I did. I may finally be on the right track to getting my life back and I am so glad.<SCRIPT type=text/javascript> vbmenu_register("postmenu_474571", true); </SCRIPT>

crabdake...

I haven't been banded yet, so I can't speak from experience. but, i do know that diaphram pain is felt in the chest and sholder, and the diaphram can feel pressure from gas and possibly a little tramatized from surgery. When I've had bouts with my hiatal hernia (which will be fixed during banding...yipee!) I felt the pain in my chest, wondered if I was having heart problems, but it was the hole in my diaphram.

does that mean you'll get your fills through your belly button?

See you in bandland......:clap2::clap2::clap2:

Hello everyone, hope all the fellow bandsters are doing well so far. I don't get banded until Thursday, may 25th but I've decided to start with walking. With that said, I've been walking 2.5 miles for the past three nights but because my legs are so fat, my thighs rub together and I've developed a rash. Does anyone know what could help with this. I really dont' want the rash to mess with my ability to walk. I thought I read something somewhere that said rubbing baby powder before I walk would help but I'm not sure if my memory serves me right. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

cornstarch works great!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
