May 2007 Banders

Recommended Posts

WHEW, I can't catch up tonight. It is great to hear everyone doing so well! I am officially on mushies! When you get there, you will LOVE IT! I will weigh tomorrow for my 2 week post-op, I hope it is good!

It is amazing how doctors are all different. My doctor had me bring in all my meds and he looked at them pre-op and ok'd them all. So I don't have to do just liquids.

I am not doing so well on the Protein thing. Where do you find it at the grocery store? I need tutor, LOL!

Happy Banding to all those going tomorrow!

OK, I have to admit, today I had my first lesson in trying to sneak a food that I am NOT ready for. I have been really good, sticking to the liquid diet to a "t". But, I made sweedish meatballs over Pasta last night for my husband and kids. After work today I came home and had this overwhelming temptation to eat a meatball. I thought if I nibbled at it and chewed it all to hell, that I would be ok. NOT! Within 2 minutes of my last nibble, I could tell it wasn't gonna go down. I could feel it making it's way back up. I barely made it to the bathroom.....and there went that meatball. Guess that's what I get!

In a wierd way, it was a bit exciting to know that the band would work that well. That it would take over if I lost my willpower.

Form now on I am sticking with my written diet and only introducing what is on the list as instructed!

Tami

Hello May Bandsters, Is there anything special that you wish you would've had and didn't when you got home from surgery. I live by a lake about 20 miles from the nearest town so would like to be prepared. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

I'd suggest more than one type of Gas-X type product, like Mylanta or Gas-X pills and strips. I've found that some of them or more helpful than others.

Good luck on your journey and drop in here often. We're all about support! :clap2:

Hi all! (and hey to my roomie in the hospital...samiam!)

I guess I need to go get some of the whey Protein. I am NOT doing so well at getting in my Protein.

Some other things I have eaten on the mushy stage: tried instant oatmeal today...the Heart Smart one has less sugar and more protein. It went down FINE! I felt pretty weak today at work...just NO energy. I felt MUCH better after my oatmeal. I think I just need some energy (ie calories). I also had soft green Beans tonight at a BBQ restaurant. I avoided the little pieces of ham, and just ate the Beans, slowly and thoroughly. Again, did great.

I am just NOT a fan of Protein drinks. I guess I'll have to find other ways to get the protein in. (I can't wait till I can have some chicken, or chopped turkey, etc).

Hope all are doing well...good luck to those who are to be banded soon! Remember, you are in good hands!

Hi all, just visited Wenjea in the hospital after her banding at 10 AM. She's hanging in there, though she's quite bothered by nausea from the pain meds.

Congrats to all the other May 17 banders!

Happy Friday to everyone! How is everyone's anxiety that is waiting for their surgery date? My surgery is in 5 days and as it approaches I get a little more nervous. I feel like I have so much I want to get done before the big day!

Goodmorning fellow May banders!

Well, a few more hours and I will be in! Thanks for all the well wishes and support, I absolutly LOVE this place!

I decided to plant lots of flowers this morning before I go in, it will keep me busy and out of the kitchen wishing I could eat something. I'll post as soon as I can. I check in at noon, surgery at one and hopefully home by 4:00...

Last night I had my first "full" feeling. I had a 6 oz container of vanilla ff yogurt.. I ate what was about 4 oz and got a dull pain in my chest... it wasnt the trapped gas feeling I'd been having and I realize thats the feeling everyone has talked about when they start to get full. I've never been so excited to get a pain in my chest before!! HAHA!

We went to Target to walk around and pick up a few things...needless to say I bought about 10 packets of FF sugar free pudding...as well as some skim riccotta to make some fake me out lasange (no mozzerella.. I thought that my be a little too tough to get down). It felt good to walk around.

I'm also crushing my daily meds.. but I'm having a hard time taking them.. they go down just fine.. its the taste that is AWFUL... I've tried mixing it in a few things as well... any ideas?

Applesauce would be my first guess. I'm not looking forward to smashing all the blood pressure/cholesterol pills I have to take. Yuck.

happy friday ... and best wishes to all those going in today and Monday. I keeping reading and am amazed at the diversity of protocol with regards to wheter or not one is hospitalized or done on an outpatient basis...it's soooo interesting...(maybe we could do a poll)

As for me its day 11 of full liquid -- its getting real a bit old but hanging in there... what I have noticed is the less variety in my diet the eaiser it becomes -- sure its not the healthiest way to think about it but for the short run its ok. Thanks to all for sharing your "off the wagon" moments -- they really are appreciated, courageous and motivating. Truth is at this point I am simply too scared to do anything off course. I have had a constant dull ache since being banded right at my upper mid. breast bone -- I am hoping that's normal and will soon pass -- I went to my support group yesterday told the nurse about it but he kinda disregarded it he just said "oh your feeling your band" -- I see him privately next week and will definately address it then. Is anyone else experiencing a constant tightness in their upper breast area ??? I am paying very close attention to it today and I noticed it gets more intense after I "drink" about 2-4 ozs. Also could you guys share what your docs. orders on liquid are mine gave no limit other than when full -- I think I probably have been drinking a little too much and too fast.... I need to learn to be dainty and sip.... so much too learn ..... HELP

Also could you guys share what your docs. orders on liquid are mine gave no limit other than when full

mine said 64 oz. per day. none 30 mins before eating and none 1-2 hours after. i can do an hour, but 2? that wouldn't leave enough hours in the day to drink what i'm supposed to!!! someone else on here mentioned the 30-20-30 rule. nothing 30 mins before, take 20 mins to eat, and nothing until 30 mins after. that seems reasonable. again though w/ the every doc does it differently! i think some of this has got to be adjusted for each individual and how their band works.

i have my first post surgery appt today and finally get my stitches out! whoo hoo! other than the gas taking longer to subside than i anticipated, the only other thing that's really bothering me is the pain in my side. it sort of feels like someone's inside poking me w/ a stick! i guess that's my port, because the largest of my incisions is on that side as well. i'll ask today. i'll also try to remember to ask about the meds and why we can't swallow them whole. i think it's just so they don't get stuck, but who knows.

hope all of this week's banders are feeling well. it gets easier every day.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
