And if your name is not on the list and you were banded yesterday, congrats!!! Also, to all the one's who were banded before us and going to be banded today (JENNYC724 & Losin'it) and later on, Good Luck to you. :youcandothis:

Okay, My day went like this---

Woke up at 3:15 am, took shower because I wanted to feel fresh for the surgery. DH and I left the house at 4 am, arrived in San Antonio 5:45 am. Registered at 6 am, was taken to changing room about 6:20 am, stayed there until about 8 am. The nurses then took me to the holding room where everyone waits until they are taken to their operating room. I stayed in the holding room until about 9:35. At that time, I was rolled to operating room. I was in surgery until 11:50 am. Don't ask me why the surgery took so long, not sure. Then I was taken to recovery until about 12:30pm at which point after that I was rolled back to my room to start waking up good and was told to relax. They also told me to get up in walk and try and urinate. Which I did both not a problem. Finally left San Antonio around 2:45 pm and was home by 4 pm. That was my day in a nutshell. All of the hospital staff was great and you can tell they cared a lot. I would recomment them to anyone. Well, here it is day two post-op and I feel like I have been hit by a truck. or did about 2000 sit-ups. The gas has been minimal so far. Please keep me in your prayers as I will do the same. I don't know if me feeling like I got hit by a truck is normal, can someone please let me know. Thanks for reading my story. Take care!

Amy... you were banded only one week ago, and are CONSIDERING walking a MILE?!?!?!?!?!? That is SO encouraging.. because I have my daughter's birthday party next weekend (10 days post op), and I was so afraid that I'd have to be practicaly wheeled out to the yard and wouldn't be able to participate.. (And then have to explain to all my family and friends.. most of which have no idea about the surgery why I'm such an invalid)... Now, it seems like I might be able to at the very least participate with my daughter.. if not even help out a tiny bit (Don't want to OVERDO it with the clean up *wink wink*).. Thank you for the update, and the italian wedding Soup broth seems yummy. Enjoy!!

We had a mother's day bbq, and since I was on the pre-op diet (full liquids) I had to get creative.. I took a few slices of london broil, 1/4 hot dog and diced them, I sauteed them with onion, garlic, and some diced yellow and red peppers.. when everything was sauteed, I tossed in some corn, and beef broth and let simmer for an hour or so.. Then I threw it in the blender... YUMMY YUMMY.. I made a big batch and had it for Breakfast lunch and dinner yesterday. Slurp :-)

Just wanted to check into the thread and say hello and wish everyone well. I start my preop diet tommorrow, but figured that I would give it a test run today to see how far I get before I crash. Im really going to try my hardest not to cheat on my preop. I have to do 2 weeks of full liquids. Went to the grocery yesterday to load up on stuff and was suprised how much I ended up spending, Protein drinks are not cheap.

SillyWillyMommy: I feel your pain, Im going to be on my preop over memorial day. My brother has already voiced his concern about being any where near me :biggrin1:

I do have a question? Part of my full liquids include cream Soups blended and strained. I dont want to do anything wrong but that seems a bit much blened and strained? Has anyone else done this and if so what process did you use should I blend and than strain, vice versa? :help:

ok, well perhaps I was a bit too big for my britches--I could only do 1/2 mile of the WATP and trust me, I was doing it like a 1000 pound elephant. :youcandothis: It felt good to pretend to be doing something though, lol! I am doing laundry today, that should count for more, right? :biggrin1: I felt like total crap my first 4-5 days and just started feeling like doing anything in the past couple of days. I went from thinking I made a very huge mistake to being incredibly hopeful!

Hi everyone! I have two questions . . . I am on day 12 of my pre-op liquid diet and my weight loss has totally stalled for three days. I'm getting a little frustrated over it. I walked for an hour yesterday hoping to move it some but this morning it is still stuck on the same weight. Any suggestions or comments?

This is a little on the gross side but on this liquid pre-op I am only having like one significant BM a week. I took some Colace yesterday and still nothing. I want to be somewhat cleaned out before surgery. Comments and suggestions are welcome.

My thoughts and prayers are with you SillyWillyMommy, KYsunshine, and keiko. Happy surgeries and quick healing w/no gas to you all!

ONE WEEK POST OP-

First let me say best wishes to all who are going in this week for surgery -- you'll be fine!!! I know everyone is different but as for me it's one week post op -- things couldn't be going better. No pain meds./no gas/ little to no belly soreness at this point -- it has been really interesting day to day to listen to my body heal -- four-five days post op. the real belly soreness passed ... I am excited for the first time to really listen and watch my body heal -- my scars look fantastic, I am treating them like babies -- although the doc. told me it was ok to shower immediately when I got home I have sponged bathed all week trying to keep them as dry as long as possible, I believe it will aid in healing/scarring. As for the two week full liquid phase -- honestly that was the part I never thought I would be able to get through -- though somehow day by day it is eaiser and the feeling of pride I have in myself for sticking it out is absolutely amazing. I have carefully planned my diet and am always including at least 65-75 grams of Protein a day -- there is no question for me that has helped with hunger and it is so very necessary for healing. I am truly amazed the "hunger" really is under control -- I would have never believe it!!! What I have noticed the last couple of days is that my stomach is really rumbling; and there is, from time to time, a tightness in my upper chest; hoping those things will soon pass too. One more thing that might hep someone out there the issue of Constipation about three days after surgery was something I really wasn't prepared for and was a bit painful -- till it resolved itself-- I was recommended an herbal tea called "Smooth Moves" had one cup only and by the next morning everthing was resolved -- (but if your on any meds check the ingredients first ) the other thing I was not exactly prepared for in the hospital, hands down more so than anything else, was the dry mouth... doc says it was because of the meds. it was awful. I did have with me a mouthwash but in retrospect I would have brought one specifically for dry mouth. Dry mouth really was my hospital issue -- it was really excessive. (That is probably more applicable for those of you being admitted after surgery and if you are given your own self- dispensing pain medicine machine (PSA). I just kept pressing the button whether I needed it or not -- I just had a plan to stay on top of the pain, which was never an issue in the hopsital). The other thing I did post op. was to drink Barley Water. I bolied one cup barley with 3 cups distilled water for three hours and strained out the cooked barley -- it is very common in the Orient and reported to have anti-inflammatory properties, I think that really helped (my dog was thrilled he got all the cooked barley mixed with his dry dog food and loved it). So anyways, thanks for letting me share -- I am so encouraged and greatful for this new beginning ... taking one day at a time....Be well!!!!

Hi Wenjea! I am on day 9 of pre-op liquid only diet. The weight loss has been steady so far, but I'm only where you were three days ago, so now I'm interested to see if I stall, too. Even though my weight has been going down, my pants feel just as tight as they did before. (Or maybe 11 pounds is just not enough to be noticeable yet?) Is it possible we could be retaining Water since we are drinking so much liquid? I really don't know.

As for your second question, we are in the same boat. I really haven't been too concerned about it. I figure liquid in=liquid out. If we are only drinking liquids, I don't think there could be much in the bowels to clear. Please someone let me know if I'm wrong.

Hello all...

Just wanted to drop by and say everything went well yesterday...was in quite a bit of pain last night but was MUCH better by this morning. I was to be banded at 10am yesterday but for some reason was pushed back to about 2pm. The first thing I asked upon waking up was..."did you have to do it open" ... thankfully they did not...and i only have 5 small bandages! We got home about an hour ago and right away went for a little walk to try to ease the gas pains.

Anyhow, I wanted to thank all for their well wishes... and best of luck to those who are being banded today!!

I was also banded yesterday. Everything went well. I arrived at the surgical center at about 10:30 a.m. and was leaving by about 3:00 p.m

I also feel pretty good but I also feel like i've done about 2000 sit ups or Like I was in a pretty bad fist fight and I got the band end of the deal.

The gas was pretty bad last night. I kept feeling like I needed to burp but it wouldn't come out, I also had a hard time taking deep breaths.

Today is alot better though. The gas is pretty much gone. (I used gas-x strips and walked alot)

I've had to sneeze a few times.....wow that doen't feel too good when that happens.

Hi all!

I'm to be banded tomorrow and found out that my time was pushed back from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Arggg! I'm making myself a nervous wreck. Last night I couldn't sleep much because I'm so worried if I'm making the right decision. I don't want to stay the way I am - the weight makes me miserable, but I'm so worried about this. I've had 3 babies and 4 operations, and I've never felt scared like this. I think it's because my other surgeries were to correct something that was wrong, and once the surgery was over, I could continue life as I knew it. And while the weight is "wrong" there seeems to be so many things that can go wrong, from complications, to band slippage, to erosion, I wonder if this is the surgery I should have. I didn't want my entire insides rerouted, which is why I didn't choose the RNY. But now I'm worried about what I'll be able to eat for the rest of my life, etc....I know I'm making myself nuts! My husband just came into the room and reminded me that the surgery I'm having tomorrow is very minor compared to some I've had, but then I was alot younger when I had those surgeries. So then I start worrying that maybe I'm too old to have this done...eeek!

Sorry to vent, but I just had to talk to people who would understand what's been running through my mind. Any warm fuzzies would really be nice.

Keiko

Glad you are doing well. I found my second day to be very tuff. I was sore, gassey, stiff etc. Everyone told me the third day was the worse. But for me it was the second. So maybe that is the way it is going to be for you. So just keep telling yourseld it is only going to get better from here. Rest, drink your liquids, walk and just chill out and it will all get better in a few days. In my prayers...along with all of the others being banded today and tomorrow.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
