Sue.... I found the diet surprisingly easy... and after the fourth day, you don't even WANT food... I felt guilty even chewing on the noodles in my turkey Soup (my doc ok's ALL Soups preop).. You're going to do fine.

I am absolutely being tortured. My pre-op diet is:

Meal 1-eggs, oatmeal, yogurt, fruit, ect. any two.

Meal 2-Protien shake

Meal 3-Lean meat, and green vegetable

Meal 4-Protien Shake

I am at work, this week they are ordering food in all week. I have to smell their food for two hours before I take my lunch break. I am drinking a ton of Water and am still starving. It sucks. By lunch time I am so hungry I could eat anything. Yes I know I am a big whiner and I know in the end it will all be worth it. But right now my stomach doesnt understand or care about all of that. If I had this much willpower I wouldnt be in this situation to begin with. Sorry, I needed to have a pitty party.

ragdoll - could be worse! I get three Protein Shakes, and all the SF crystal lite, SF popsicles, and broth a girl could want. Oh yes, and I get Vitamins too. I could hurt someone for what you get. Did I mention I am on week two of six weeks of this diet? The good news is I'm down 20 pounds!!

I think if I could leave while they all eat lunch I would be doing lots better. But smelling 10 pizzas makes it really hard. Yes I am thankful I get more than you do! only 9 days of this crap left.

Last week Friday, I went to see my pulmonary doctor, and he read the tests I took, asked me about my sleep apena, told him I had surgery for that like 3 years ago, and he said that he wanted me in the sleep lab that night. So I called my work, told them I was not coming in, went to the sleep lab last Friday night and took the sleep study. Did real bad until the cpap machine at 2 a.m. then I slept like a baby. Am on cpap machine now until surgery. Was told patients who use cpap machine up until surgery come out of surgery and recover more quickly because of all the oxegen in the blood. So then the next morning, I had the scoop down the throat test, and threw up all over the table. Luckily, I had no food in my stomach for over 15 hours, so it was dry throwing up, but it as awful. Not like I remember having when I was a teenager. So they found the dredded hiatal hernia and said something about taking a biopsy of it??? !!! When I was leaving the hospital Saturday afternoon, I asked if I was gonna be seeing them (the great nurses in the same day surgery unit) and they said, Yes, you will start out here and then go to recovery, and then to your room for a few days 3-4 days! I thought this lap-band was same day surgery then you go home. So my question is this: Does anyone else have the hiatal hernia before surgery, and did anyone else stay a few days in the hospital before being released? How was it? My surgery is May 29.

Ragdoll... I honestly felt that the full liquids was EASIER than any diet I've ever done before.... once you get past the first day or so... I guess because it's like going 'cold turkey'.... I can see how hard it would be to smell other foods that are off limits... Maybe wear a nose plug??? :-)

Crabcake.. I think you get the award for toughest presurgical diet. 6 WEEKA?!?! Are you kidding me??? I feel for you.

Good luck to everyone being banded this week! Thoughts and prayers are going your way!

I can't believe I was banded only 3 days ago. I feel great! The gas pains were AWFUL, but that was BY FAR the worst of it. My incisions feel/look good, and I am really starting to have more energy. Oh! and I am starting to have hunger pains! I have been drinking broths, ptn shakes, and Water. Last night I ate hot and sour Soup, and it was DEVINE! I just avoided all the meat in it, and ate the rest. The tofu has a lot of ptn, and the veggies were cut up real small. It was so filling and satisfying...good thing I love it!

I have been trying to find recipes for the mushy stage. Any ideas?? I have read where people make Soups (ie tortilla), and just run it through the blender. But I wonder how you do that if you are not supposed to eat meat yet? (except fish).

I'm trying to think of good things to eat. Today I had some mashed potatoes and gravy from KFC. I know they are not very healthy, but I don't know what else to do (other than soups and ptn drinks). If anyone has any insight, I'd appreciate it!

Thanks!

Did you have a hospital stay? How are you able to eat anything except liquids? Aren't you afraid you will stretch your band with such heavy food so soon after surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
