May 2007 Banders

Recommended Posts

Congratulations! That is great you are back to work so soon. Wow. My doctor also told me I would be getting the new AP band. I googled it and did a search on this forum but couldn't seem to find much info about it. What's the difference?

May I ask where you are at, Elaine?

To everyone who is getting the AP band, where are you guys located? In the US? If so, how did your doctors get the AP band?

To all those who have gotten or are getting the AP band this month, where are you all located? In the US? If so, how are your doctors getting the band? I get banded the 31st and would much rather have the AP.

Hi Faith.... I am in Arizona. According to someone at my doctor's office, my surgeon is the only one in AZ doing the new band at this time. He said something about there being a training on it and only select doctors around the country were invited to the training of the new band.

CRAP! Okay, crap about the band, but crap because none of my posts showed up, that's why there are three that say almost the same thing. I kept getting a "page cannot be displayed." I would reresh and go back to the end of the thread to check, nope, no post there, so I'd post again! Dadgumbit! Three of the same thing...Sorry!

Thanks for the info, SElaine. Maybe others will chime in, too. I mean, I'm soooooo close to June (which is supposedly when it will be released to the masses), I'd really much rather have the AP if I can. Guess I had best get on the horn to Inamed.

From one Kathy to another....from one Spivak patient to another... I'm thinking GREAT thoughts about you this morning!!!!! I am T-Minus 12 days and counting down and I will be right where you are today...I assume at Park Plaza. Let me know blow by blow how you're doing! You GO GIRLFRIEND!!! :)

Hi Kacee I was banded by Dr. Spivak On May 2 and it was so stress free. Mine was done at the surgery center. I went in at 8:30 and I was released by 11:30. He is such a wonderful person. He was the first face I saw besides the the recovery nurse when I firstwoke up. He was there waiting for me to wake up. I have a really great experience before and after surgery. YOU ARE IN SUCH GOOD HANDS:biggrin1: NO WORDS CAN REALLY DESCRIBE IT

What a great calendar Nimblebean!

Well I got word a couple days ago that my insurance co. had only just received all the documentation they needed. So, IF they reply within 7 business days, as they said they probably would, and IF they approve me without making me jump through anymore hoops (I think they should) I could have the surgery done either on the 24th or the 31st. I have to get approval 2 weeks before the surgery date in order to assure the clinic that I have been following the pre-surgery diet (which I have for over 3 weeks already!!). So, wish me luck.

The 31st is a full moon. Do you suppose that is a good thing or a bad thing??? ;)

Glad to hear most are doing well.

I have a question....I went to see the nurse on Wednesday. We talked further about post-op diet. She of course kept saying to stay hydrated.

I asked about sf Jello and sf pops. I told her that I really didn't want to drink all those juices b/c they are so full of sugar. She told me that sugar is so important the first week. I am on full liquids for the first week, then go the Protein Drinks the 2nd week. She said I will need the sugar. I wanted to try and stay away from high calorie stuff as mch as possible, but she replied that the first fews weeks it's not about caloric intake.

Anyone agree?

Hi MPatrizzi---My dietician told me the same thing. Yes, you want to drink those juices because it is the most calories you will be getting for the first week at least and you need some calories. Mine told me, while on the Clear Liquids for the first week, drink broth, have jello, drink apple, grape, or cranberry juice for the calories since the jello, broth, and popcicles<----dont have many calories, its not about the sugar, its about keeping your body hydrated and not feeling to weak. This is what I was told. Hope this helps.

We were told to concentrate on healing the first few weeks, not on weight loss. If you think about it that makes a lot of sense. You're body's in shock from the surgery and needs more than what sugar free foods offer. As for full liquids, I thought Protein Drinks were considered full liquids. That's what my book says anywho. It's funny how everyone tells you something different isn't it?

cmacinga, I would probably say the gas pain...even tho we will be expecting it...some make it sound like it may be worse than what we will expect. I'm a big baby, too so I will be on pain pills for a month!! KIDDING!

I was banded on the 9th and have yet to experience the gas or shoulder pain everyone here is talking about. My port area is a little tender and I can't bend over because my "rolls" push against it, but I just made sure to walk alot and pop GasX strips and have had NO problems or pain. I'm sure that since you are aware of what you could experience you will do what you need to to ensure a speedy recovery!! Good luck! Let us know how it goes when you do have your surgery.

1 week out, and 10lbs gone FOREVER! It hasn't been easy, but compared to everything else I have tried, it has been EASIER! I slept for 4 solid hours this afternoon. I think the week just caught up with me! I am less hungry tonight, so maybe my brain is getting a clue!! sugar free grape popsicles are my weakness today!

Glad to hear so many of you are up and around. I came home fast, but day 2 was very hard!

Take it easy! the 5/14 group is a big group, how exciting!

Hi all,

It's so good to hear all your stories. I'm a newbee on this thread, scheduled for the 29th, start my liquids on Monday. I'm ready to get this over with now.

Hard to know what to expect, everyone's experiences are so unique. I'm ready now though, even if it's on the rough side, let's get it rolling!

Congrats to all those that are on their way!!!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
