NVgirl - well . . . . losing 4.2 pounds is better then gaining 4.2 pounds. :) I can understand why you would be dissappointed though because it feels like such a sacrifice to give up the food but totally worth it if you lose lots of weight. Maybe you will drop all of the sudden when your body realizes that this is a battle that you are going to win this time no matter how stubborn any old set point is. You are almost there so don't give up because I know you will succeed!

Hi everyone! I am home from the hospital and after sleeping off and on I thought I would give you the update?

My surgery was May 3. VERY postivie experience. Worst part was waking up from surgery and being so dizzy and the dry sore throat. Told the nurse I felt nauseous and she put something in my iv that took it away immediatly. AS I was waking up I heard the dr. and nurses laughing and saying "look, shes grinning!" My dr. said it went great and my first question was" How was my liver!?" He said it was perfect and the dr. assisting him was jealous. ha

Pre-op was so nice, private waiting room, warm blankents, comfy gurney and very friendly competant nurses. When they started wheeling me to the surgery I thought, "this is it! last chance to change my mind!" ha

Soreness in port area, maybe a pain level of 3 on a scale of 1 to 10. Clear Liquids every 15 minutes all day, walking a few hours after surgery. Stayed overnight, then went on protien drinks, sugar free pudding and skim milk every 15 minutes for a couple of hours to check tolerance, saw dr. and nutritionist and then was released from hosp. Got home around 11am and took the prescribed liquid pain med and slept off and on all day.

No gas pains at all so far....they put a lot of diff. things in my ivs--one was pepcid--maybe something for gas? I dont know. Just know I am burping and farting fine with no pain....Tomorrow I get to start on yogurt and v-8 juice and pureed Soups along with the other liquids. 30 ml every 15

minutes when awake.

I am doing great! Thanks for your thoughts and prayers!

Hello May Bandsters!

I am counting down the days till the 11th, but am STRUGGLING with the pre-op diet (what pre-op diet??). I get so motivated when I see everyone doing their liquid diets, but I just can't bring myself to stick to it! I am being banded by Dr. Spivak, and he said to stick to a low-carb diet (can't do that either!)...he really just doesn't want me to gain weight. But I am eating stuff like mad!! HELP!! It's the TOM for me, so hopefully that is why I am craving so many things.

SO, I have officially vowed to start a liquid diet TOMORROW, and stick with it until next Friday. I have only 7 days, and I KNOW I can do it after getting inspired by everyone else here. If anyone has any encouraging words, please throw them my way. My hubby is out of town this weekend for a volleyball tournament, so I have the boys (6 & 8) by myself. We will spend all morning at the ball field, then have a baby shower to go to (complete with fajitas, cake, etc)so I am not really sure how I will do this. Maybe I'll take a cooler with some Protein drinks...I got some of the SlimFast low carb ones. Are there other ones that taste better? Or are more filling?? I heard that the Better Than Boullion is really good, so I will try that also. Oh, I hope I can do this.

I guess it goes to show that I really do need this band. I am so controlled by food...I have heard that after having the band for awhile, you don't really even think about eating. That thought is liberating to me. I cannot imagine what it will be like to not care about eating. (but it won't even compare to what it will feel like to be thinner!!!!!!!) Aren't you all EXCITED?? I am! (if I could just get through this pre-op stuff!!!) HA!

I pray for strength and healing for all those who were recently banded. Your comments are encouraging and comforting to those of us who are following close behind. And to those of us who will be banded soon...I pray most importantly for peace of mind. It is so easy to feel fearful at this point. But I KNOW we will do GREAT!!! Pretty soon we will ALL be on the "other side", and we'll be there for encouragement and support.

Blessings to all!!!

Hey there fellow may 25ther. where are you getting your surgery? I am going to the hospital angeles in tj. also does your doctor have a pre op diet set up for you? mine doesnt have you do one other than not eating anything past 10pm night befor surgery. The patient facilitator says that this doc doesnt require it unless bmi is greater than 45. Mine is 35.

Hello all:

I have a scheduled surgery date for May 25th. Woo Hoo, I'm so excited, I can't wait. I'm hoping this month will FLY by! :)

mommalee - you make it look so simple! I hope all of us have it that easy!

Kathy - Struggling is an understatement. The Protein Shakes help but I'm already feeling like I'm drowning on liquids and it's only been two days. Everyone says the 3rd day is the turn-a-round day so hang in there. I haven't cheated yet but I sure have thought about it. I have to keep telling myself that I am giving my body what it needs with the Protein and vitamens and Water soooo anything else is just calories for my warped brain that got me here in the first place. The mental battle is the worst for me today.

Not to encourage your cheating, but I read something today that said the whole 'shrinking liver' thing is debatable. My doc is one of the ones who doesn't require it. (I think though that I have a couple of weeks afterwards on clear liquids so I'll still have to pay my dues.)

So don't beat yourself up too badly!

Wenjea,

You inspire me...way to go for not cheating! And you're right...the mental battle is the worst! I'm not hungry, I just feel like I need to chew and swallow!! Go figure! Thanks for the reply...I don't feel so all alone, and I promise I'll start tomorrow!

For any of you ticker pros out there...I cannot get mine to work! Whenever I put the URL in the box at the bottom of my signature (I'm putting it where you can add a picture to your signature), I get "invalid URL" as a response (or something like that...invalid something). Please help if you can, and explain it very well...I can usually figure these things out, but I just cannot get this to work!!! UGH!

thanks in advance!

hello i was just banded may 2nd , and im really felling sore and nauscious . I relly cant each much and you dont even get hungry. today is my 2nd day after surgery and i feel alot better than yesterday. I really was not doing well , having alot of gas pains . But today I woke up felling a little bit better which makes me feel like its only going to get better as the days go on.

I plan on going tp wrk monday but really not sure anymore . I might take another day . did anyone else have the same feelings ?

I also was banded on the 2nd (FINALLY!!). I felt/feel the exact same way you do. I'd take the extra day just to build up some energy. I don't know about you but I am wiped out!!!! I was nauseated BIG TIME when I woke up from the anesthesia but, luckily, that has subsided. Hang in, take the time off and keep in touch!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe this is a completely retarded question but I dont see my surgeon until Thursday to ask it! If we have to stick to this awful liquid diet before we are banded do you think it is okay to take some diet pills? I am talking about PRE-OP here only.

Hey Ragdoll,

I'm pretty conservative when it comes to medicine, but I would talk to the doctor before taking anything. I know it's rough being on the liquid diet and it's the weekend, but talk to the doctor first. I know there is a list of medications you should not take before surgery. What if diet pills are on that list, it postpones your surgery and God forbid, you have to start the liquid diet all over again?!:cry

I do not think you should. They told me only Tylenol if necessary. You cannot be sure what is in those diet pills.....they may not be good to take before surgery. I am having a hard time with the liquids too. I am supposed to have two meals of liquids and one small meal starting on Monday. I tried to start early but have not been able to replace the second meal with just liquid. It is hard but think of all the things that are hard now that will become easier!

Good Luck!

Maureen

paste it in the 'edit signature' section. the one that looks like a little text editor. ignore that stuff towards the bottom. it needs to go under where you have your 2 be banded line. you may have to delete some of the other to do it because it only lets you have a few lines. it really is kind of confusing!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
