May 2007 Banders

opps, one more thing I wanted to ask you guys -- my surgeon places the port more in the middle of my abdomen, I totally forgot to ask him if that is discretionary and why others seem to be placing it more on one's side -- what about everyone where is your port being placed; did your doc say why and did you have any say in that decision????

I really don't want this "medical device" obvious in the middle of stomach when I lose weight and it is more likely to protrude. what did your docs say...

I have one for the list of 100 reasons that drives me nuts!

I don't want to have to scope out the room to figure out which way I can go so that I fit between chairs and tables and not knock anyone over! :faint:

OOOOooooohhhh yes!!!!! I second that one!!!! I cannot tell you how many times I scope out where to sit so that I won't get blocked in.

I also want to have enough room in a restaurant booth to actually put a napkin on my lap.

Hell, let's be honest, I want to not be scared I won't fit in booths!

Hey everyone!

Well only 8 more days to go. I've been doing the liquid diet since April 27th and have lost 9 lbs so far. Boy is it tough. My husband is still being a trooper and doing the liquids with me for support. :fish: I've had to battle some cravings, especially while cooking for my

kids (Natalie is 4yrs and Zach is 3yrs) but overall it's ok. I'm glad to hear everyone is doing well after surgery, it gives me confidence in what I'm doing. Take care all!

Wenjea Take Some Slip On Shoes To The Hospital You Will Thank Your Self Later They Got Me Up Several Times To Take A Lap Around The Halls To Keep Blood Clots From Forming Even Though They Give You Blood Thinner And Put These Pulsating Pads On Both Of Your Feet At Least They Did Where I Got Banded. They Take A Lot Of Caution There I Rememered Today They Gave Me Shot To Clear Or Push Anything In Upper Stomach To Go On Through Even Though I Did Not Eat Or Drink Anything After Midnight Caution, Caution They Were All Pretty Professional About Evrything Probably Willfind Out That On The Bill Also!!

So many of you have given support and comfort to others even if you may not know you give it to people just by reading your threads. I hope my journey for the right tool to help me on my Quest to a healthy life ends with the band. Good luck to all the May bander awaiting surgery date, I will keep you in my prays. Hey Everyone,

Nothing like a hot shower to make you feel like a new person. Sill having some gas pains, taking the gasX and walking. Never knew I would be so proud of burping.LOL or any other form of gas release. Overall it has not been that bad. But I had 2 c-sections. This is just a little diffrent. The insecions are smaller and higher up, I have six holes. Heating pad helps, oh and the pain meds are great. Just a reminder, get your prescription filled before your surgery. The doc call mine in and I picked it up the day before. It was nice not to have to worry about stopping somewhere to have it filled while on the way home from the hospital. I am a big beliver in taking your pain meds and using them to work out the soreness. I learned that from doc who did my c-sections. Take the meds and move, move, move. Then sleep. Well good luck to everone else. Talk at you later.

Good luck to all those getting banded tomorrow! I had my final doc's visit this afternoon. All went well, so it's onward and upward! I still don't have a time for Tuesday, apparently they don't call and schedule the time w/ you until 4ish the day before (talk about keeping me on tender hooks!).

Good luck Macys granny and all the other May 4 bandsters!

I had my pre-op visit with the doc and everything is OK. Surgery is scheduled for 8 AM on the 16th and I'm so happy it'll be early in the day. I worried myself silly before the pre-op testing, so an early surgery time is better for the nerves. I'll have to stay in the hospital overnight because of the sleep apnea, but if that's my only complaint, I'll take it!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
