May 2007 Banders

Well, after 15 months, a revision, and now a tummy tuck/lipo, I do believe I am finished.

I still have to recover from the tuck (I'm only 3 days out), but I can FINALLY SEE a skinny dude in the mirror!

Frankly I don't care what my final weight number turns out to be, it's the body shape that's important -- and I'm finally concave.

Bruised, ugly and still healing pics here, I expect the skin to retract in the future: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f12/manatees-turn-plastics-75422/

I declare goal!

That's it, I'm done as far as I'm concerned. 180-190 is a fine goal range, and the body shape is coming together. I doubt I'll ever be completely happy with my look, but so be it. Time to move on :)

s320x240

s320x240

That's a medium shirt, a 34 pant, and on a good day a flatish stomach. Good enough for government work.

Just a quick check in...

Pregnancy is going well... I'm 18 weeks along.. may have to have a c section bc as of right now I have placenta previa... but in some cases the placenta will move..so we'll see.

Hope everyone is well!

Melissa - Great to hear that all is going well in the baby department. Hope that the problem corrects itself. Take care of yourself and that little miracle.

Losing ground

I was always warned that maintenance would be the hard part. I've slowly crept up, and now I'm pushing 200 again.

Boredom, distance to the gym, no money, no fill

I could blame many factors for this, but the bottom line is that I have been lacking in discipline and have been eating too damned much.

Going to get a fill on the 9th that should help some, but I need to get focused. Set a goal: 185 by Jan 1. Possible? Perhaps -- but at least it's a focus.

I am here! HAHA...staying busy and trying to stay focused on the exercise and staying away from foods that "slide" too well...I think I got very comfortable with a size 8 although I still have more to loose....I am going to join WW in January and see if the support won't help me stay disiplined.

I just came across this thread - didn't know it existed! I was banded May 21, 2007 at Hurley in Flint, MI. I have been struggling, struggling, and struggling. I know everyone that tries to lose weight struggles whether you have had WLS or not. But, this is BAD. I have only lost 10 pounds, and that was all during the PRE-op diet. I am soooo frustrated, depressed, and discouraged. I have given up many times since surgery. I was in denial at first that this stupid band wasn't working, and I was doing everything I could to help it work. Guess what??? 19 months later I'm past denial, and admitting to myself that the band is doing exactly what it's there to do --- control portions. I, on the other hand, am doing everything I used to do --- making poor choices and not exercising. I am now commited to making this work - only took me 1 1/2 years to decide that "I" have to work at this as well. Any encouragement I can get would be good.

Congrats to all who have succeeded in this lifelong journey.

Stephanie

I had my surgery May 2007 as well, and have virtually lost no weight. I've had several adjustments, but I can't really see any difference. Happily, though, I am now down 73.7 pounds because of weight watchers. It is a wonderful program, and I would encourage anyone to give it a try. That has been where my true success has come from. I suppose the band has helped, but it is certainly not the magic wand that I hoped it would be.

I'm sorry that you have had NO success. My weight loss has been very slow, but I am happy with my progress so far.

I think that we all need to be totally honest with ourselves. I know that I haven't lost as much as I could have because I was resisting the lifestyle changes. It is VERY EASY to cheat and revert back to the old foods that got us to where we started. The fact is that the band is only a tool to be used in combination with lifestyle changes.

I have just gotten back on the exercising bandwagon and I know that it will make a huge difference in my loss.

When I find myself straying, I go back to the basics and focus on the Protein (about 40grams/day) and lots of Water. If I am focused on that, then there is not a lot of time to put anything else in my mouth.....

Hang in there and try shaking things up a bit. Set a new goal for a healthy new year!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
