I am not banded yet....April 19th will be my 6 of 6 visits to supervised weight loss Dr. (AIGB in Richardson):clap2: . I keep reading about PB and PBing. Exactly what is PB and PBing and what causes it?

I know the def of PB'ing, but what in the heck causes it?! I was banded in Jan and have never had this experience...too bad, from what I hear it sounds like fun...hehe. Anyway, I keep hearing that it will happen at least once and Im still "waiting". Is my band not working since I have not PB'ed?! And again, what causes it because I want to do everything I can to avoid this experience!

Stephanee, when I PB it is typically when I have eaten too much or eaten too fast. You can avoid that by slowing down to ensure you don't overeat. Julie

Thank You Julie...I have noticed that here lately, I am getting hungrier despite my fill in Feb. When I get hungrier, I have a tendency to eat faster and chew less. I guess I have been lucky enough to not be afflicted with PB'ing. Now that I now what the consequences can be, I will stop this bad habit of mine. Thanks so much! And, oh yeah, I guess it is time for a new fill, huh?!

Food getting stuck in the stoma, or being unable to pass to/through the stoma. The esophagus pumps to pass the food, and your body tries to lubricate the area (hence the painful spasms and sliming most people have, and the "foaming" you may/may not experience). I would guess that when something won't pass after the body's normal efforts to clear it out, that the PBing is either the result of a defense mechanism (a type pf purge repsonse, much like animals will vomit if they're choking), or the effect of the esophagus going into overtime and getting to the point where it spasms hard enough to bring its contents back up. I don't know if either of these are accurate, they're just my best guess.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
