New here! Wife to a wonderful man getting a gastric sleeve after lapband

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! I'm new here. My husband had a lapband placed in June 2008 and had list almost 100 lbs and then gained it all back. He is set to have said band removed on 3/24 & he is planning on having a gastric sleeve in 2-3 months after the revision. I'm here to learn more, to learn as much as I can so that I may be the best support. I want to learn what the journey will be like for him and how he can avoid having a relapse and gaining weight after a success. I look forward to getting to know all of you and I appreciate your advice and your letting me into your journey

I had the band removed and sleeve done on the same day of surgery. Unfortunately the band did not work for me.. I like what the sleeve has done for me thus far. The only thing I would ask your husband if he is ready to make lifetime changes to keep his weight off. The sleeve is not magic..there is work to be successful..it would be advisable for your husband to why he gained his weight back with the band. Was it emotional eating caused by stress, boredom, etc etc. Did he have a consistent exercise plan that he did stick to. If your husband soul searches ..he will be ahead of his game this time. Ps it won't hurt to see a psychologist, pre and post op. These are my suggestions. Wishing your husband good luck in making a healthy change in his life.

New here! Wife to a wonderful man getting a gastric sleeve after lapband

dania224

above could/should be reworded to..............

husband getting gastric sleeve after lapband - has a wonderful wife ;)

welcome to the board :)

sounds like you've been supportive through your hubby's ups and downs with the lapband

now you will be there to help with the sleeve :)

you are aces :)

fingers and toes crossed..........

he "should" have better luck with the sleeve

support from family/friends et al is very, very important

good for you on being their "through thick and thin" ;)

since your hubby has gone through WLS - he is aware of many things he should and should not do

much of his knowledge from earlier he can use again

but you/he can/will learn alot by reading the boards

do a search above with certain key words that you are wondering about

for example the ever popular word "stall"

but ask any and all questions :)

tell hubby to check the board out too

take care to both

good luck to dh next week

speedy recovery

next step - being sleeved in a couple of months, on the way to having a healthier, happier, longer life for BOTH of you

kathy

Thank you, Carlotta and Proudgrammy! I am already researching more recipes that are higher Protein in a small amount of food and working on eliminating lots of the trigger foods from the house and I will follow a similar regimen with him to show my support

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
