Jen40 12 Posted March 13, 2014 Just had my drain taken out! (Gross)... And they said it will close on its own?!? Just keep it clean with soap and Water and it will close on its own in a week? Sorry this is all new and disgusting to me... What's your experience with the drain hole?
capecoralgrandma 44 Posted March 13, 2014 Sorry to say mine took about 3 weeks to close and it did look gross. I thought mine was getting infected so I showed it to my primary doctor. He said it was ok, just keep it clean with antibacterial soap and keep it dry in between showering. I kept it covered mostly with a bandaid and it slowly closed. Lulah 18 Posted March 13, 2014 Yeah the drain was gross and that feeling when they remove, ugh! I was told to keep mine covered and was taught to change the dressing daily (simple gauze and tape). It closed up within a week, but I think internally it took longer to heal. That part of my abdomen still felt sore and strained easier then the rest of my abdomen. Just try to keep it clean and dry and if in doubt call your dr, good luck!
Sleeve219 6 Posted March 14, 2014 I am three weeks out and the area where the drain was is all healed. It was so gross coming out. Felt like someone was pulling a worm out of my side. Yuk! 1 badabing40 reacted to this
piercedqt78 658 Posted March 14, 2014 Just don't cover it with a waterproof band aid for long term, or use bandaids. Use a simple tape and gauze as mentioned above. You don't want to hold moisture on that area. The band aid does not allow enough air to get to the area and it will not stay dry. I put a waterproof band aid on mine for my shower, then removed it and washed it at the sink with clear dial liquid soap, patted it dry with a paper towel, and then put on clothing as normal. It healed in about 10 days.
Kindle 8,667 Posted March 14, 2014 My doc closed the drain hole with steri strips and told me to just let them come off on their own. My other incisions were closed with glue. Took about a week for the glue and strips to all come off. Meanwhile I would just wash as usual in the shower. 1 badabing40 reacted to this
