Beside the uncomfortable feeling when you eat to fast or to big of a bit. Does this stretch out the sleeve? Because I do not want to stretch my sleeve.

You'll get mixed opinions about this but it's *MY* opinion and that of my surgeon that you can't stretch out the sleeve too much. It will never hold the capacity it did, but it will give a little. Most of the stretchy part was cut out and what you are left with is the tighter, muscle part of the stomach.

As your stomach heals from surgery, the swelling will reduce and it will give way a little, but it won't truly streeeeeetch. Even if you drink soda through a straw. Which you shouldn't. It's bad for you. :D

I am sure someone will some along with the opposing view soon enough. ;)

So, generally I agree about not being able to stretch the sleeve too much, but is the no straw rule about stretching or becoming uncomfortable with gas?? Just wondering b/c there are a few things that just go down better via straw. (Not Soda, just thinking about it make my sleeve bloat with gas)

It's another one of those mixed opinion things. Some docs say no straw, some don't care. Mine says no, but it's the only way I can get my liquids down and it hasn't hurt me yet, so...

I was showed pictures of stretching of the sleeve the last time I was at my teams office....It is not the sleeve that stretches like Lipsticklady said. Actually a pouch can form under your sleeve at the entrance of your small intestines. There you can store extra food if you abuse the sleeve long enough. The problem with that is that you then weaken the small intestine and can cause a whole new set of problems....So it might be good to try not to eat too fast or over fill your sleeve.

Putting your fork down after every bite helps me. Also a smaller fork or spoon. Half way through I stop eating and cross my arms over my chest and wait to feel out my sleeve. A lot of time I don't go back eating after I notice the difference as how I feel...

:)

What Lips said.

My doc has no issue with straws. I've been using one since the day I got home.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
