sillyolme1 19 Posted April 5, 2014 Honey our innards and outside skin are ALL the same...go ahead and drink Protein drinks...first youre risking stretching your pouch...and you should be more focused on your healing innards as to what goodies you get to eat...after all you didnt come this far to sabbotage all this effort did you..there are caring honest doctors and there are some who will let you decide what you want to do....go do your own research instead of believing either of us. The fact is solid foods...heavy foods can cause pressure on your stitches and stretch your pouch. These foods can lead to discomfort and vomiting. Everyone needs to drink light clear fluids for the first week to ensure healthy and proper tissue (innards and outer) healing...its up to everyone to RESEARCH info ...the forum can help but may be confusing bc every dr and nut has there own ideologies...research and listen to your body....also sodium is not a great plan..if those Protein Drinks have plenty of sodium remember your body already pumped up with salt water...it will take you longer to get rid of the swelling and gases. Good luck
shmily 424 Posted April 5, 2014 I disagree with you. I prefer to listen to MY DOCTOR who has a VERY stringent plan and I have followed it to a T. I don't really think you should be giving medical advice here 6 LipstickLady, SugarFreeMe, pquinn181 and 3 others reacted to this
shmily 424 Posted April 5, 2014 and to add, the first week I could not DRINK enough to stretch my pouch, I sipped and sipped.......just as my doctor told me to do. 2 pquinn181 and SugarFreeMe reacted to this

shmily 424 Posted April 5, 2014 Licensed practical nurse, I assume not specializing in Bariatric Surgery and certainly not a doctor 5 terry1118, pquinn181, LipstickLady and 2 others reacted to this
terry1118 1,274 Posted April 5, 2014 I don't think you can say that across the board. Each patient should follow their own doctors orders. Mine had me doing Protein Shakes as soon as I was released from the hospital on day 3 I had my very first Protein Shake in the hospital, the day after surgery. I agree, each patient should follow their OWN doctor's orders. We chose them and they know us. :-) 3 DLCoggin, AprilHansen and shmily reacted to this
pquinn181 21 Posted April 5, 2014 I agree with Smily! Sillyolme, you should not be dispensing medical advice. You aren't a doctor or a bariatric nurse for the doctor of anyone on this forum and you shouldn't be confusing everyone. We all need to follow our own doctor's orders! 1 shmily reacted to this

sillyolme1 19 Posted April 5, 2014 Btw i hace NOT given out any MEDICAL advice....
shmily 424 Posted April 5, 2014 I did a lot of research but I paid my doctor the big bucks because he does this for a living, not on a message board. You DID give medical advice......btw...ck your spelling before you speak of "professionalism". As someone else said.....we follow our doctors advice because they KNOW us and our unique case. We do not all fit into your cookie cutter. I thought you were done posting here. I am going to "unfollow" this post but if I knew who to report you to on this board, I would do so. 2 terry1118 and SugarFreeMe reacted to this
pquinn181 21 Posted April 6, 2014 Sillyolme, no one is bullying you! And you have been giving medical advice to EVERYONE on this forum! Most of us have done a LOT of research before taking the step to have weight loss surgery. Like Smily I am paying my doctor for his years of experience with hundreds of patients. I'm Positive he and his staff have more education and experience in the weight loss surgery field than you do! I know you mean well, but your advice doesn't always agree with what our doctors and their staff recommend. I plan to follow my doctor's instructions to the letter. If someone wants your advice maybe you could private message each other. 1 terry1118 reacted to this
AprilHansen 109 Posted April 6, 2014 Seems like we should be free to post what we think in this forum- and we are equally free to ignore what others post. I'm pretty sure we all have doctors we paid, and we all should follow their advice.... so why have the forum at all? Variety. I say live and let live. 2 Joan Henderson Beaubian and PdxMan reacted to this
pquinn181 21 Posted April 6, 2014 Yes, we should all be able to post our opinion; however, we should not be telling people that their doctor, nurse or nutritionist is giving them the wrong info. We need to follow our doctor's instructions. Enough said. 4 PdxMan, gixxergirl, jacileggs and 1 other reacted to this

We need to follow our doctor's instructions. Enough said. No doubt. I'd be ashamed if I didn't follow my Drs instructions and something went wrong. I can just see it now... "Did you take the Vitamins we gave you?" .... 'no I chewed some flinstones'.. How embarrassing would that be??? 3 pquinn181, shmily and PdxMan reacted to this

No one is bullying you. You generously offered your opinion, others offered theirs. I'm positive that most people here have done their research just as you have done yours. Personally, I chose to follow the advice of my surgeon, who has performed 1000s of surgeries with no leaks. His knowledge and success mean far more to me than the suggestion of a stranger on the Internet. No offense intended by that at all. I'm sure you'd agree that I'd be quite silly to entrust my life to someone on the operating table, but not his follow up advice.
