Susan's Solemn Silliness

Recommended Posts

I was just thinking that I would never have done this yogurt and cottage cheese diet as a "diet". It is hard and crazy!!! In all the diets I have tried, very few were of this nature (like the cabbage Soup one or grapefruit diet). I always counted calories or WW etc.

I am only doing this for the band. (but the weight loss side effect will be nice)

Pre op day two under my belt. It was strange because I hardly ate yeterday, I was not really hungry.

As each day passes I am getting more confident that I can do this.

Day 4 begins. Last night was a little rough and I was hungry. I ended up having a yogurt before bed because I felt so empty. Down another 3 lbs this morning. I know that will slow soon, but it's fun while it lasts.

Pre-op appointment and tests at the hospital today. 1 1/2 hours to get there by TTC. I know I should not complain given that so many people travel much greater distances to have their procedure. Okay I will shut up and read my book!

You are doing amazing Susan!!! Wow you are losing like crazy! that cottage cheese and yogurt sure seems to be working! lol

I am so happy for you and hoping that I will see similar results when I start pre-op. I have a feeling I won't though as I tend to be a slow loser really and I have likely already lost the extra I had in Water, but it is all good! I just don't want any of it back! lol EVER!

Here I am eating.....cottage cheese! SURPRISE!!!

Actually my surprise is finding out that I have to stay overnight at the hospital for my surgery. That sucks. Big time.

Except for that piece of news, it was a wonderful experience at my pre-admission at Scarborough Grace. Had my blood work, EKG and chest X Ray done and met with a nurse and anesthesiologist. Everyone was so nice and supportive, wishing me luck and giving me confidence. Wow - less than 2 weeks now!!!!!

:help: It's almost 7:00 pm on Friday and I just gave dinner to my daughter and I am climbing the walls! This is the first time since I started the CC&Y diet that the smell of food is making me hungry enough to eat anything:hungry:

I am really worried about making it through the weekend. I deperately DO NOT want to fall off this diet. :think

Hi: Take some of that delicious cottage cheese and pretend it is the most wonderful thing you have ever tasted and take your time eating it. Next keep yourself busy to the point of distraction. My way is getting on the computer and posting like mad. Hang in there you can do it. Dont forget you will be around a lot longer and healthier for your children. Doddie

Thanks LL and Doddie. I am feeling much better this morning. I did have a bowl of cottage cheese and a Jello and spent the evening watching tv with Dh. A good nights sleep and I am back on track.

I can do this.

SS... You can always go to the 23 seminar... I'm sure they will let you in... (after all those seminar givers LOVE an audience!) :0)

I am booked for that date... however it is looking like I cannot change my shift at work... I will try again tomorrow but it is looking grim...

On a brighter side... there is not much I can learn there as Mrs. Yoda had the surgery one year ago and I have lived (Vicariously) with the band all that time...

You can take my spot maybe and let me copy your notes... (God... I'm back in high school...second.gif

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
