Susan's Solemn Silliness

Recommended Posts

I am now one month away from being banded so I decided to start my own journal/blog to chronicle this adventure.

Last night I had an interesting dream. I dreamed that the colleagues I used to go to WW@Work with, all went to a seminar for a weight loss diet that involved eating very small amounts but with whole wheat pita. I said that I was not going to go because I was being banded, but I found myself wanting to try it and then being indecisive about getting the band. A reflection of my (as Jack would say) 52nd thoughts.

I yo yo from being so excited to terrified and can hardly wait to wishing it was 2 months away! (Although I have gained 5 lbs since I had my consult - eating all this junk to give in to the cravings).

I am so glad I found the board with all of you. You are all so supportive of each other and seem to genuinely care that we all do well. I know I am making the right decision and reading the posts make me feel that there will not be any surprises. I have confidence in Dr. Yau and the team. I think they too have my best interests at heart and will look after me.

Then...it will be up to me to make this work. I can. I will.

That's a good attitude, Susan...and THAT is half the battle!

I agree with Yoda, Half the battle is your attitude. Stay positive and take it one day at a time. We've all been there and had doubts but we've never regretted it - not for a second.

Have a great week!

I know how you feel!

As I have my consult in 2 days and with my line of work... I worry about "doing it" all the time. I am a chef and all types of food are around me ALL the time.

BUt I have seen the results and some of the troubles, and in the end, it is something I think is worth the time and effort.

You will have 2nd thoughts till the day it happens, just try and focus on your goal and it should help.

;)

Last night was Passover for my family and as with most holidays it was a feast. I felt a little awkward because the last time I had seen most of these people, I was 40 lbs lighter. I know most of us can relate to that!

Anyways, I indulged of course...:hungry: many of these foods probably wont go down the band. No one said anything about my weight gain, but I am sure they were wondering....

These are people I will not disclose or discuss my band with. It kept running though my mind the next time I see them and the marked contrast in how much food I will consume. Then I started to think about when people notice me losing weight again....they are sure to ask what I am doing. My answer: PORTION CONTROL!:high5:

Everyone says they can see the weight loss in my face. Woohoo 23lbs gone from my face. :) Anyway I say the same thing when people ask what I am doing, I say I am watching what I eat and I eat smaller portions. This is all true, they just don't know I have a little crazy thing inside me that helps out with that a little.

I have pulled the Portion Control card numerous times as well. I also have in the deck the "I ate a big breakfast/lunch card", the "I ate a late breakfast/lunch" card, the "My Dr. have me crap & I must watch what I eat" card plus a million other little white lies that help me get through the day.

A nosy girl that I work with said to me the other day "I dont want to be nosy, but you have lost some weight" I said "Well yes", she then said "would it be to forward of I asked you how much" and I said yes. I knew it was eating her up inside, and I really wanted to brag, but if I told her how much I am sure she would have known that something was up.

Andrew,

I plan on borrowing your cards some day! I love that you said it was forward of her! I have someone at work who when I was losing 60 lbs last year kept asking me how much have I lost and how much more do I want to lose etc. It was really hard to be tactful, but I realize now that I should not have worried about tact since she was so tactless! I will be armed this time!

Oh btw Andrew - I brag about YOUR weight loss to my hubby all the time!:heh:

-=smiles a big smile=-

That is what Dr Cobourn said too.. If someone asks you what you are doing Leslie, you don't have to tell them you can just say "portion control" and feel good about it because that is the truth!!

-=starts marking of the days till you go for your band=-

28 days before me!

Oh btw Andrew - I brag about YOUR weight loss to my hubby all the time!:heh:

Thanks, I am flattered.

I am afraid that this week hula girl went on strike. I will have to see if I am down tommorow as of official weigh in Wednesday. Having missed my workouts this week with looking after a sick baby and sick wife has not helped. I am sure the red wine this weekend didnt help either, or the Cookies that my wife baced to take to friends. I think I kinda went on an extended celebration for losing 50lbs / 1/3 of my weight loss.

Oh, and damn those chocolate bunnies and lilliput eggs that seem to be going around too.

I will have to get back on the wagon next week. April 13 - TGIF (Thank God I'm filled) again.

Oh well

Andrew

My you have lost weight... can I ask how much and how?

First of all Gaffer you are the man...I told TWLSC that you should be the western rep and get paid. They responded that they couldn't put you on the payroll but would give you credit to the plastic surgery center. I told them that you have already paid $16k for a breast reduction like I did. Maybe a rebate will be in the mail. I am looking forward to you leaving the 300 club

Anyway I had to go out to my first formal dinner on Sunday. Stuffy work chit with not one but two "plastic barbie self-proclaimed socialites" that only allow their husbands to talk when permission is given.

Well it took only 15 mins into the dinner of 14 people before Plastic Barbie 1 says very loud to me but for all to hear...."wow it looks like you finally lost some weight"..."how much and are is it because you are ill". Well of course everyone went silent cuz they were waiting for my verbal retort. I was gonna say "Portion Control" but my meek wife (1 glass of wine gone already) spoke up and said "its cuz we found new position for sex and we haven't been out of the bedroom in 2 weeks!" BOOM....I was floored...then she said..."maybe you and your hubby should try something different as the same old missionary style once a month doesn't seem to be working for your bitchy attitude".

THE WITCH IS DEAD... I swear to god I heard cheers over the laughter as the BEOITCHHH left the room. My wife got more drinks bought for her that night and congratulations.

She is my hero....plus mother of my 3 chitlins!!

I quickly ran home and read brochure on when it was safe to resume the bedroom life... 6 days and 4 hours to go. Maybe my prom tux will fit by then... then again... we have 3 kids, work, etc....

Sorry for the rambling but my wifes answer beat my Portion Control answer hands down or another part up.

Good luck

I have been thinking of this one. Here is my situation. I have a 9 year old daughter who is very sensitive. She does not like changes in routine etc and like most kids worries that I will die and leave her. I was a single mother for most of her life and we are very close. We moved in with my hubby 2 1/2 years ago - which was a very difficult time for her.

I finally told her about the surgery. She seemed to take it okay especially when I told her that I would most likely be back at home by the time she got home from her after school program (I am having the surgery done in the hospital). I have to be at the hospital for 6:45 am and originally thought that she could sleep over at a friend's and they would take her to school in the morning, so that DH could take me and stay with me. But because she does not like changes in her routine, instead I told hubby to stay home, take her to school, go to work and come pick me up later in the afternoon. I would take a taxi to the hospital and be there alone.

Truthfully, I am a little nervous to do this by myself, so I wanted to know if anyone else just went in (not necessarily to the hospital, but to the clinic) and then had someone pick them up. I didn't want to ask a friend either because it is so early.

I am a grown woman after all, but still a little scared...

MacDaddy...tis a good thing I wasn't drinkin' over the keyboard this time around....as I would have spewed my beverage as I read your post!!! (I did that once, not a pretty site and it got Mr Yoda pretty upset!). Your wife is AWEsome!!! Reward her, you must!!! Perhaps with the Owen Wilson angle....oooops, I digress!!! :nervous KUDOS to your wife!! :clap2: :clap2:

Susan: I don't know so much about people on the Canadian thread going alone but I know of several on the general thread who did go alone. No problem. It is preferable that you have someone pick you up and take you home etc.....but yes, lots of people went alone...and even spent overnight alone etc. You'll be fine....if you feel it is important not to disrupt your daughter's routine....then so be it. I don't know your hubby...so he may be okay with it (or maybe he only "says" he is okay with it)....but it is him I would worry about...he may feel the "need" to be "with" you.....though he says it would be for moral support for you...in actuality he may need the support for himself....by being with you. If circumstances were such that I felt I had to go alone, it would have made Mr Yoda distraught....the idea of not being there with me to walk me in and say "see ya later" and "I love you" etc....you know...what with the "what ifs". Same on my end, there is no way I could let him go alone.....so just be sure you think/consider your hubby's needs in this decision too. But if it turns out you have to go alone, you can do it!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
