What is the average weight loss in the begining?

Recommended Posts

I am just wondering what is the average weight loss? What does your surgeon expect from you weekly to loose?

This is an impossible question to answer. There are too many variables. Surely you can guess a person with a BMI of 50 is going to lose more than someone with a BMI of 35 during the same stretch of time. Men usually lose faster than women and younger folks are going to lose faster than older.

Comparing yourself to others can only result in heartache because I can guarantee you someone will chime in who will make your loss seem miniscule and then you start to have a pity party which will do you no good.

I say this not just for your sake, but for all the other new sleevers out there. Don't compare yourself. This is probably the 4th most often asked question behind stalls, hair loss and Protein.

Bottom line is to follow the guidelines your doctor laid out for you and you will lose at the rate YOUR body will lose.

There are so many variables, it is almost impossible to answer. That said, I will repeat what my doctor told me. For someone who weighs approximately 250lbs pre-surgery (my case), expect to lose about 50lbs during the first three months post-op, and then 10lbs per month thereafter. This has been my experience. On 3/16 I will be 3 months post surgery and I have lost 47lbs. Good luck!

I agree with both replies!! Each and everyone is an individual when it comes to this. I am 2 mos. out on 3/7 and I have lost a total of 27 lbs. since the day of surgery. I lost 21 lbs. pre-op. I'm losing slow and steady but my inches are the biggest loss!! Take what you can get and don't worry, your time will come and you will drop. You'll see... Good luck!!!

Just follow your plan, and don't worry about others. You will lose weight. Just focus on you and what you are eating!

My nutritionist told me when I asked her a similar question, "What does it matter? In the big picture, it's about YOU and how YOU feel, how much healthier YOU are!" She was right! I learned to be proud of my hard work and not dwell on those sho have lost more. I AM happy and feeling great! They are right, too many factors. Everybody is unique. Be yourself, follow your plan, and enjoy your results. : )

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
