Travel & Protein Shakes

Recommended Posts

I am travelling to the USA on business in April.

Obviously there are restrictions on bringing food and drink to the US from Europe. I have enough problems bringing Swiss chocolate as gifts so I don't want to be held up explaining powder at Customs, especially as it takes long enough to get through immigration and I have a connecting flight!

I thought to order ( probably from Amazon) some Ready made Protein shakes ( no easy access to milk ) and have

them delivered to my hotel.

I will be 12 weeks post surgery.

Can you please recommend a ready made shake which I could order? I don't like anything too sweet.

Many Thanks

Isopure. not sweet and loaded with Protein and no carbs

Myoplex light also is a good choice.

These are easily found in USA..

A lot of people like the Premier Protein chocolate shakes. You can order them from Amazon. They also come in vanilla but I guess most people prefer the chocolate.

I actually prefer the Pure Protein Shakes -- and you can choose to order single cans or a case of 12, depending on how long you will be in the US. They also have a lot more flavors:

I will be honest, I drank the Isopure drinks for the first few weeks after surgery and thought they were terrible! You will read mixed reviews on them. Some people love them, some people hate them. They come in more fruity type flavors and are more like fruit juice in consistency, whereas drinks like Premier Protein and Pure Protein are more milky in taste/consistency. But for me the Isopure had a very strong and weird aftertaste. I had to cut them 50/50 with Water in order to be able to drink them.

I love the Premier Protein chocolate shakes. They were my go-to Protein Drink pre-op, and I find that I still love them post-op. With 30 grams of Protein per 11 oz (325ML) you can't go wrong.

I recently bought some that were a little bit clumpy even though the expiration date was July 2014, so I called the company. They said that some degree of being clumpy was ok due to the high amount of protein in them and that they were still good to drink, but they sent me a new four-pack free anyway. I drank the clumpy ones... just had to shake them a little more to get them a bit more smooth.

I bought a big tub of the Syntrax nectar Roadside Lemonade, and found that I don't really care for it. I'll probably use it by adding some lemonade flavored Crystal Lite packets to them.

There is soooo many more rtd options in the us even general packet you mix up.
But a option to look up and pack with you is a PhD option I have used them before all 3 flavours the orange is best imo.
it’s a juice not a milk drink does have a dry effect like you need a drink after and a slightly yoghurt taste which seems strange as its juice but served cold really cold takes the after taste away some.
This is the link to read up on them not in stock right now but you should be able to find some by googling.

also if you get a medical note from your doctor you won’t have any issues being allowed to take what you need through customs.

Ensure Protein. I've resorted to these because I am lactose intolerant post op.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
