Can we take Advil? Dr said no aspirin. Any answers?

My doc told me no ibuprofen (it irritates the stomach). Advil is ibuprofen.

Maybe other docs feel differently?

He told me to take Tylenol. I HATE taking Tylenol, so I hope that I can avoid headaches! LOL

Listen I have arthritis and fibromyalgia and for the last four years I have taken motrin and alleve every single day. Anyone taking nsaids banded or not are at risk for stomach irritation with them. I refuse to be in pain and refuse to be on narcotics. The fact that these things go right through your pouch I don't see the issue with them. It's either take them to function or worry about my stomach. I just make sure I take them every single time with food.

The drug in the pill is what causes the problem and not the pill(or even liquid nsaids) within the stomach. After the drug is absorbed into the blood stream it causes a reaction within the stomach lining that can cause the stomach to be more susceptible to ulcers and I believe that any pressure area such as the stoma would be more susceptible to ulcers and eventually erosion.

Erosion or ulcers are not inevitable but the % is greater when using nsaids. I still rely on them when my knees ache, but I don't use them daily. Maybe once a month for me.

I just took two ibuprofen and two acetaminophen -- arthritis pain just getting too high on my scale today. I try not to take this stuff frequently but when I need it I need it. And my surgeon has no prohibition on NSAIDS. Obviously sensitive stomach issues or GERD would be a big issue for some one with a band so I am very careful about watching for any symptoms, plus I do liver cleansing from time to time. Every one is different. I don't take any other drugs but occasional NSAIDS get me through the tough times. Eight joint replacements between two biological parents -- genetics are genetics.

I was told no Advil (ibuprophen), Tylenol (acetaminophen) or aspirin. You can use Aleve or call your doctor for a liquid prescription pain med. My headaches seem to go away much faster now and they are fewer than before I was banded and I have only had to use something once (BC Headache Powders) I'm not sure what medication is in them, but I needed something and knew that this would go down easilly. It helped almost immediately.

Ulcers have been diagnosed to be caused from the bacteria H-pylori not taking nsaids. I mean seriously unless you are taking a million a day without food I wouldn't worry about it. My doctor knows I take alleve. He says nothing about it only to watch for signs of bleeding. I think really the no nsaids was put mainly in to place for by pass patients. But ask your doctor and I guess it would depend on what you are taking it for. I have no choice in the matter or I can spend my life in bed which I choose not to do.

Well I only need to take one a month. I have painful ovulation. So just once a month shouldn't hurt me.

The little keychain that my doctor gave me only states that 'Caution should be taken when prescribing potentially ulcerogenic medication...' It's allowed but need to be careful.

My doctor allows them as long as I take them with food.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
