I had a few friends drop in yesterday for coffee. I offered them sugar Cookies, Fig Newtons and Ginger Snaps. I had a handful of gingersnaps while sipping my coffee (I know, I shouldn't have, but I did) and chatting.

About 1/2 hour after they left I suddenly felt incredibly tired, sat on the couch and BAM, the next thing I know, it was 2 hours later and I woke up with dried drool on my face.

I'm guessing carbs and I are no longer on such friendly terms.

Lesson learned.

They just dont do that to me. I used to use sugar to destress so I know it soothes me, but dont get those huge lows after the high like that. I wonder why it happens to people.

Oh well, the best thing is not to eat simple carbs I guess but if you ate them with some Protein, that probably wouldnt happen because you wouldnt get the huge sugar rush due to the lower overall glycaemic index. Low GI carbs on their own can cause an insulin spike.

Wow, never happened to me either. Although, sugar and carbs never seem to have any effect on me, aside from making me gain weight!

When was the last time you were checked for diabetes??

Yes - go have your blood sugar levels checked - and explain to the doc exactly what you told us... no matter how carb free you have been, eating a few Cookies should NOT do this to you.

I agree with the getting tested for diabetes. There is no reason why eating what you did should have spiked you that high. I would do it ASAP, in fact. The sooner you know, the sooner you can get it in control.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
