Should I have a minimum daily calorie intake (worried I am loosing weight too fast)?

Recommended Posts

I weighed myself just now before I head off to bed out of curiosity and I've lost more weight-- I'm down to 260 now. Now thats great and everything, but it seems to me like I am loosing weight faster than I should. Since the surgery on March 14th I've been losing at about one pound a day. And it doesn't seem to be slowing down. I'm not eating very much. Right now I am in the mushies stage. I have been for nearly a week. And there is plenty for me to eat, but I'm just not that hungry. Yesterday, for example, I wasn't hungry at all, but I drank a low carb slimfast and then some cristal lite. Today I had a smoothie for Breakfast and it filled me up all day. I meant to eat today, but I just didn't get hungry after that. I have less restriction now then I did after the surgery, so I know it isn't some sort of problem with that and things are staying down fine. Just lack of apetite (which is really wonderful). Loosing weight this fast though just makes me nervous. Any input?

Enjoy your honeymoon period because once your appetite returns, and before your first fill, it will slow down and possibly stop altogether. So long as you don't feel ill and still have energy enough to function on a daily basis there's no need to worry.

Yeah, it will slow down and even stop soon enough.

When you lose weight that fast, its not all fat, but you cant help it at this stage of the game. It wont hurt you and it does even out over time and I didnt find I turned into a muscle-less blob or anything, lol. I still had plenty of lean body tissue AND fat left and I've got a healthy ratio of the two now. So just enjoy it.

I agree, just enjoy it. When you hit the 1 to 2 lb per phase it can get kindof boring. Be sure to keep your liquids up too to keep yourself hydrated. Not everyone on this forum is lucky enough to experience a fast start. I did and it bummed me out when I slowed down. Now i'm a steady loser and people are starting to notice.

Don't forget to start adding in replacement activities for your NEW LIFE!

Keep up the good work!

Enjoy it while it lasts. I was the exact same way, losing about 100 lbs, maybe a little more, in the first six months, then *screeeechhhhh*ing halt. I too was concerned, and even requested follow-ups with my dietician. Everyone told me the same thing - get your Protein and Calcium, and enjoy it while it lasts because it's going to hit the brakes hard one of these days.

I say ride it out... just make sure to listen to your body and make sure to eat something if you get the shakes or anything. :D

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
