Where are all the Canadians ?

Recommended Posts

@@cab127 I've done orientation, the social worker and the nurse practitioner. I'm scheduled to see the psychologist on Friday. My blood work and EKG have also been done.

My NUT info session and dietitian appointments are in November and I have a surgeon consult in mid-December. I wonder how long after that will they schedule the surgery? Providing of course all else goes well.

What about you? Do you have your date yet?

I have completed all my appointments but have to do a stress test next week. I am hoping to get an appintmrnt with the surgeon soon thereafter. Not sure when surgery might be maybe Jan 2015

@@cab127 I'm sure it'll be soon. There's probably a big break for the holidays in December. Good luck with your stress test.

Saskatchewan does have some WLS surgery available...I think only in Regina. I was referred to the program when I moved there two years ago. I never heard anything and had already put in two years in BC, so followed up in March of this year with the team I started with in Victoria. Things happened quickly after that and I got my surgery date in August. I only just got the call from my referral to Regina a few days after that!

@@Lallylocks Amazing how I've read accounts where things bottle up and then all of sudden everything moves very quickly.

I hope you are doing well and loving your weight loss journey.

@@BriWLS What do you consider a long wait? A couple of weeks or a few months?

I'm calling weekly but so far no cancellations. I'm really wanting to get in before my December 22 orientation appointment. I want to get this show on the road!!! :) Anyway, I hope my fellow Canadians are doing well and that things are progressing.

I call every couple of days for an earlier dietitian or surgeon consult appointment. But so far no luck. They are both scheduled in December.

The person I talked to today said that my December surgeon consult might result in a March surgery. Ugh! That's forever! (No patience is not my strongest asset.) So of course I'll keep calling.

The nurse had advised me that the surgery date is dependent on what hospital you are assigned to. My friend went to met her surgeon and had the surgery two weeks later. Let's hope for that kind of luck????????

I'd love to have that kind of luck. March is five months from now and I'd really like to get this show on the road.

Thanks cab127 for the encouragement. =)

I'm with you guys! I keep calling too. I've read online that sometimes people reschedule December/January surgeries because they just want to enjoy the holidays before surgery. If you have a December consult, maybe you can get bumped up!

And yes we all cross our fingers for that kind of luck! I did so much research BEFORE making the decision that I feel really ready NOW. lol

Not waiting well over here either. ????

Sorry for the late response Ivanova, I would consider over 5 months a long wait. Honestly if you call everyday and ask for cancellations you will get the surgery much faster. I called and finished my process quick.

@@BriWLS So from orientation to surgery you were done in 5 months? That is pretty awesome.

Since orientation it's been 3 months and I meet the surgeon next week. But I was told he doesn't give a date. His office calls you back some weeks later. I have a feeling it's going to be a long anxious nail-biting wait for a surgery date. But I sure hope I'm wrong.

I agree that it can be a quick process. I would encourage you to call the surgeon's office and ask when they are booking surgery appointments because when I found out my original surgeon was not booking until after March, I went back to TWH and got a much earlier date-Jan2015 so for me from Orientation to surgery was a total of 5 months

I don't know where you are in Canada but you are lucky....5 months! Over a year, year and a half for me. I'm in Ottawa and we are backed up here. But the faster I went ahead and got all the tests necessary done the faster they got me in. Good Luck! I'm recovering now.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
