Where are all the Canadians ?

My name is Bre. He had a stricture. Where the scar tissue closes the opening in your stomach so anything he tried to eat just came right back up. But again, that was with the bypass. I haven't had any complications with my sleeve so far. And every day I feel better and better. Just a tip, when you start noticing your clothes are too big. Don't go buy a bunch of new clothes. Within a week or 2, those will be to big too. I've been living in $12 wal-mart pants and have gone from XXL to L in a month. It feels great. But it's hard on my wallet. Ha ha. Small price to pay I guess.

Nice to meet you Bre! That's the pants I wear lol wal mart stretches :)

Drayton Valley, Alberta here. Sleeved in Red Deer on April 10, 2014. Couldn't be happier!

Awesome! How did it go? How long from when you had your scope to surgery date was it?

My scope is on June 26 in Red Deer.

Hello Briwls, I'm from Acton which is pretty close to Brampton. Congratulations on your weight loss! I'm still going through all of the pre-op appointments. Can't wait for my turn.

Get Canadiangirl! Did they give you a date yet or do you have to wait for your last appointment ? During this waiting period I remember I would go through a lot of doubts and worry but honestly it's been the best decision I have made in my life

Hello everyone I'm in Toronto. I just went to orientation two weeks ago so I'm just at the very beginning of my journey. I going through OHIP for my surgery. I have my social work appointment in October and I see the nutritionist in February.

Does anyone know if they weigh you throughout the process or at each appointment? I ask because I'm at 35 BMI with co-morbidities but of course I'm always trying to lose weight. I'm concerned that if I were to drop below 35 BMI that they wouldn't let me have the surgery.

Ivanova8, welcome! I am in the same situation as you. I almost got removed from the program because my BMI almost wasn't as high as the requirements. You need to make sure your surgeon approves you before making any changes, because you run that risk. My surgery is in December, and I am thrilled. I have terrible knees and high blood pressure.

Good Luck!

I am in Calgary.

Wow, that's really disappointing to hear. I won't be seeing the surgeon for many months I'm sure. Thanks for letting me know Calgirl26. I have arthritis in my knees and neck and high blood pressure. I'm really looking forward to getting some relief for my knees too.

Lucky you! December is getting close. Are you getting it done here in Canada? How long is the process in Alberta? Are you getting a roux n-y?

All the best!

That's so cool. I think I'd much prefer to have the VSG but for Ontario they said it's the RNY unless the surgeon decides otherwise. So I was less than thrilled when I learned about that at orientation. I've done a lot of reading up on both procedures so I will bring it up when I see the social worker in October. You don't get if you don't ask. Or maybe I'll have to be a squeaky wheel without being totally annoying. Otherwise I'm sure they could just refuse me altogether.

They only weigh you the first time you come in. I did mine in Toronto too. When you are put on your opti fast they don't measure your bmi AFTER opti fast to allow you to get the surgery done. They measure your initial bmi the one you applied to the surgery with that should of been the first day they met you.If they have accepted you and you are already going through the processes before your surgery you are already a candidate for bariatric surgery. I was worried about the same thing as you, my bmi was borderline before opti fast.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
