I'm from Brampton too! There isn't a 4 year wait though, my first appt at Toronto Western was June 5th 2013 and my surgery day is May 28th. I have to say the wait was worth it, in those few months they prepare and educate you for the surgery and life after. The time went quickly and I feel prepared now :)

I'm doing awesome. I'm still on a liquid diet. And I'm really missing eating meat. But I'm down 30 pounds and feel better than I have in years!

It's so weird. I still have about 85lbs to lose before I'm at a healthy weight, but I feel incredible. My clothes fit better, my face is so much slimmer already. I'm starting to look on the outside how I feel on the inside. I'm so happy.

Good luck!! You'll feel amazing. When I was in the hospital after having mine, the man beside me was having revisions to his gastric bypass. He'd been having problems for a few weeks. After both our surgeries I asked him if he regretted having the surgery in the first place due to his problems. He said he hasn't had 1 regret and he would do it all over in a heartbeat. He was 70 pounds down and said he still felt healthier than he had in years. He was very uplifting for me. I had my 2 week check up today and my incisions are almost completely healed. I'm on to full fluids and mashed potatoes now. And it feels like a delightful treat.

That's awesome! I hear so many stories so I'm nervous as to what to expect after surgery, wondering if I'm going to have high or low pain, am I going to tolerate the many changes omg, but I'm still going through with it lol. What revisions did this man have? My name is Maria :)

Not a lot of Canadians on here. I am in Newfoundland. Will be having surgery June 10th in Costa Rica. I am at 39 BMI, and there is a five year wait here. I didn't want to wait that long and In the end may not get approved. So for $8500 US, the investment in my health and future are worth it.

My name is Bre. He had a stricture. Where the scar tissue closes the opening in your stomach so anything he tried to eat just came right back up. But again, that was with the bypass. I haven't had any complications with my sleeve so far. And every day I feel better and better. Just a tip, when you start noticing your clothes are too big. Don't go buy a bunch of new clothes. Within a week or 2, those will be to big too. I've been living in $12 wal-mart pants and have gone from XXL to L in a month. It feels great. But it's hard on my wallet. Ha ha. Small price to pay I guess.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
