Hi all,

I had a surgery date for GBS and decided that was not the route for me. I since have researched the band and have decided this is a better choice for me. I have met with a surgeon, attended his seminar, and will "officially" meet with him tomorrow to discuss the procedure and to get insurance rolling. I live in Pueblo, Colorado. Dr. James Smith does the procedures here. I am anxiety ridden, but feel somewhat better having made the decision to go forward. Being an emotional eater, and someone prone to anxiety and occassional panic attacks, it is needless to say I feel ...overwhelmed. I am new to Pueblo so have no friends or family here. I will get involved in a support group of bandsters here, and will be actively seeking support...and becoming supportive to others.

I am 48-years-old, 5'10" and weigh in at about 270. My top weight was 307. I have been reading a lot of posts on this site and I am impressed. I thank God for each and every one of you wonderful people.

hi there, I have completed my seminar and 1st consult. I am scheduled for the scoping of both ends next Friday. Ewww! I'm really hoping for a surgery date for mothers day. I don't know yet if insurance will pick this up but I'm going forward regardless. I'm in Tacoma, WA and Dr. Oh is my surgeon. I have 100 pounds to lose and want the yo-yo dieting to be over. I am finding all this caring and sharing very encouraging. Thanks to you all!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
