Very light headed- is this normal?

Recommended Posts

I am 6 days post op and I feel very light headed. This has been going on for a couple of days. I am on full liquids and getting in about 50 grams of Protein and 60 oz of liquid. Any thoughts on what is causing this?

I was lightheaded and dizzy due to medication, and not drinking enough, but it sounds like you are drinking enough.

Are you on any medications?

I do remember when I went to my appointment my doctor said that if your B12 or B1 is off that can affect you (nausea etc). Just a thought, it may not apply to you, but it doesn't hurt to have it checked out. Are you taking any B1 or B12

supplements? My B1 was very low, I was so nauseous and dizzy (it didn't help that I was throwing up like a rock star), but I started taking my B supplements and noticed a definite difference.

My take is that following surgery your blood pressure gets low and you feel lightheaded. My husband got in the shower (knowing he was lightheaded) and passed out. He cracked 6 tiles, blackened his cheekbone, scraped his arm on the shower door, and hurt his leg. He could have killed himself. I have read others who had this same problem. The BP cuffs are easy to operate these days, but when you feel lightheaded, SIT DOWN. Best of luck to you!

I was light headed for the first few weeks. Not all the time, but every time I stood up I would get fuzzy for a second and then go back to normal. I was getting my fluids and eating about 500-700 calories a day for the most part. I am not really sure what caused it really. It took a good 6 weeks before it stopped happening every time I stood. Now it rarely happens. Maybe just because of the drastic change in fluid/food intake.

It's amazing how unique our journeys are and then how similar they can be as well. I am 2.5 weeks post op and have also been getting dizzy when I stand up.........I came here and did a search and it looks like others have had the same issue. That puts me at ease. It seems like so many issues that arose and occur during this journey are somewhat common to all......the website really prepares and answer a lot of questions....

I'm so glad that I found this. Today I felt like I was going to pass out. I was fine when I showered and shortly afterwards I felt like I was going to pass out. Once I rested, I got up and drank some G2. I thought my electrolytes were down. I did feel a little better but it scares me. Thanks for the posts. I'm getting ready to take my B12 to see if it helps too.

Somedays my arms and shoulders feel so weak. Does anyone else have that problem?

I still get this occasionally and have talked to my doctor about it. Usually it is a symptom of being dehydrated but also it can be a natural body response. Sometimes the blood just doesn't move fast enough in our bodies. If upping your liquid intake doesn't help, get up slower and take time to talk with your doctor to make sure it's not something else.

I'm experiencing this as well, until I realized yesterday that I have been taking my bp meds same as before. Called my pcp and he told me to stop all meds. I have an appointment on Thurs. He wants me to self monitor and document my bp readings. Right now it's still pretty low, causing lightheadedness, no energy, etc., but my doc. assured me that when it gets to a "normal" level, I'll feel better. In order for him to see where my bp really is, I need to be off the meds. and let them get out of my system. I feel like dooky on a stick, but I'm sure like everything else, it will get better.

I am 13 days post sleeve and experienced terrible dizziness today starting just a few minutes after I woke up. I turned over to my right and my head started spinning. It lasted for about 20-30 seconds, then subsided. Throughout the day, when I bend over or lean my head from side to side it returns for a few short seconds, but not as severe. Yesterday I had a hard time with esophageal spasms or something, and had some dry heaving twice. Because of this, I struggled to get all my fluids in, and was short about 24 oz or so. I don't know if yesterday's episodes have anything to do with my dizziness today. It seems to have gotten a little better as the day wears on. Hoping for a better day tomorrow.

It could be low blood sugar too. I would drink 1/2 cup of apple or orange juice and it cleared right up.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
