this is harrrdddd. I am 3 days post op and dealing with the loss of my grandfather. (It happened the night of my surgery) I sit here while everyone else is being comforted by food knowing for the 1st time in my life...I can't. I have to own and feel these feelings. I'll be honest. It sucks. It hurts and all I want to go is grab a pizza and feel better for even a min...but I won't. I can't. And ...I know better. I am disappointed...that I feel hunger. I was really hoping I wouldn't. I pray it gets better. On the plus side..I have been very blessed so far to be able to handle my liquids well and even some of the Protein Drink. I am working hard to get up to what I am supposed to take in. I do feel some...heartburn or acid reflux stuff going on even though I am taking Pepcid...is this normal?? Thanks

I am so sorry for your loss. it is very difficult to not turn to the old standard of feel good eating. but I notice that you know that that is not the real deal. you said you know better. Doesn't help the feeling though as it was once your comforter. Now you must find another way to comfort yourself and this one will not be avenue to hurt you any more. Causing poor health. I think your doing great since you recognized how you felt and yet did not indulge.

You are much stronger then you think. Your on your way to a new, healthier you.

And yes it is normal to feel discomfort. You are not healed at all. Your fresh out of the operating room still. Nothing will feel right for a while yet.

Although you did not mention what surgery you had anyone of them affect your system and everything will be off balance for a time......:)

I had gastric bypass. And thanks!! It's so nice to have support. I hate that just hearing commercials for food or seeing others eating it is bothering me...I have so many things to be thankful for this is so small...but pretty hard for me.

There is no such thing as this is so small. This is your life and you experience what you experience. Remember this is your journey and what you are going through can and will change you forever. All the experiences you are going through are real. Losing your grandfather and staying on course is amazing...You got through a huge stress and was successful. That is nothing small.

As you continue your journey there will be small thing and huge light bulb moments for you. Changes that you never knew would happen. That is why it is called a journey. Enjoy the journey it is quite the ride!!!!

Some people will not watch commercials at all at first. Me when I see them now i think hmmm how can I make that better. Junk food commercials they just make me wince.....

Your going to get the help you need here. There is no wrong thing to ask or wrong answer it is what you gleam from people that will help. There is no better examples to help you then those who are and have gone through the WLS too. :)

My condolences as well on the loss of your grandfather. The hunger (apart from the emotional challenge of losing your grandfather) is almost certainly head hunger and will pass quickly. Most RnY patients have little or no appetite for several weeks up to several months following surgery. Sounds crazy and I found it quite bizarre when I experienced it but that's the way it usually works.

We all applaud your strength and your commitment. Hang in there. You're gonna love the new you!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
